General Description
To provide assurance to the public that City employees conduct business in a manner that is honest, transparent, lawful, and in the sole interest of its residents, the City of Atlanta recently created the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The OIG endeavors to ensure integrity of city operations, good stewardship of public resources, and to prevent conduct that undermines public trust in government. In furtherance of this mission, the OIG is seeking a Director of Information and Outreach (director) to spearhead its public outreach efforts. Among other duties, the director will manage traditional and social media, engage the public through outreach initiatives, coordinate the anti-corruption trainings, and cultivate candidates for internships and full-time staff opportunities.
The OIG is an independent agency that reports to the Governing Board of the Office of the Inspector General, which is composed of nine City residents selected by business, civic, educational, and legal organizations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide broad communications support to OIG, for internal and external audiences, via press, publications, and website and social media updates
- Draft press releases and handle media inquiries
- Develop public information material
- Develop, administer, and support OIG marketing initiatives
- Plan and implement outreach and education efforts
- Deliver oral presentations to local organizations
- Recruit interns, investigators, and auditors
- Preserve confidentiality of sensitive and protected information

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications, media relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field; or
- Minimum of four years of professional experience in communications, media relations, journalism, or marketing
- Two years of experience managing the communications of an organization
- Two years of experience managing the public outreach function of an organization
- Experience working in a startup environment
Valid driver's license
