Inside Sales Representative
Drives revenue by increasing School Specialty market share and penetration within assigned territory. Works primarily via the telephone with a sales hunter mentality, generating new business, as well as maintaining re-order business. Provides consultative and collaborative approach to understand customer environment and competitive forces to consistently execute on the strategy and exceed customer expectations.
This position is based out of the candidates home office and has a base salary + quarterly commission. The base salary range for this role is $21-$25 per hour, depending on previous experience.
Summary of Primary Responsibilities
- Utilize an outbound sales process including, needs-based consultative selling to aid customers in achieving business goals with the use of School Specialty products.
- Develop multi-level relationships with accounts to promote, market, and sell School Specialty brands to existing and potential customers within assigned territory.
- Use SalesForce.com to manage book of business in assigned territory; activities include updating account and contact data, pipeline management, account planning and intelligence information on accounts.
- Drive and create a positive, collaborative environment by developing a deep customer understanding of needs and leveraging internal departments to maximize revenue opportunities.
- Partners with Category Sales, Subject Matter Experts (SME), and Merchandising to understand new or additional product offerings and services where applicable.
- Overcome objections and effectively manage customer rejection.
- Respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner and follow-up on all sales leads.
- Drive continued growth; move customers to our online order-entry platform.
- Work directly with customer to assess, describe solutions, define products, and create quotes.
- Display consistency in word and action – model high standards of ethics.
- Remain optimistic and persistent.
- Support and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree
- 1-2 years of relevant sales experience in lieu of degree
- Inside Sales, Outside Sales, Retail Sales
- Initiative-taker
- Territory Management/Planning
- Excellent organizational skills
- Engaging and goal-oriented personality.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to conduct presentations.
- Strong computer technical skills – MS Excel, CRM program
