Purpose:
The Nursing Informatics Specialist shall act as a liaison between the hospital’s clinical areas and the IT department. This includes the primary responsibility of determining the needs and requirements for clinical applications in acute and ambulatory healthcare settings. The Nursing Informatics Specialist will also lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of clinical systems. This individual will work with staff, nursing and physicians to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education and training, quality outcomes, and providing support in accordance with organizational goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
1.Participates in the implementation and support of the delivery and support of Clinical Information System solutions throughout Nuvance Health.
a.Serves as a liaison between IT and clinical areas.
b.Collaborate closely with – and communicate between – IT leadership and the clinical community to provide leadership for clinical systems projects and initiatives.
c.Collaborates with the applications and technology teams to ensure that patient care transformation tasks are incorporated into system design and implementation.
d.Assists in the assessment of current state processes and identify opportunities for improvement in the design of future state processes.
e.Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for appropriate system use.
f.Assures systems development and maintenance provides efficient workflow and processing for end users.
g.Orients hospital staff to new or revised IT solutions and its impact on operations.
h.Communicates system implementation process to physicians, nursing, and site-specific associates that are impacted by system design/revisions.
i.Reports on project activity to stakeholders.
j.Manages departmental expectations.
k.Able to delegate tasks effectively for the team work assigned.
l.Responsible for supporting the clinical staff by achieving an understanding of the following:
a.Clinical Workflows
b.Clinical Requirements
c.Clinical Priorities
d.Industry Standard Clinical Best Practices
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Registered Nurse. Bachelor’s degree in nursing, other related clinical field or Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Industrial Technology, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution. Certifications in clinical management, health information management or Informatics is desirable.
Prior experience with the installation of a clinical order entry or clinical documentation system, particularly the Cerner Millennium products, preferred.
An understanding of analytical processes, along with demonstrated proficient computer skills related to spreadsheet use, plus database and query abilities.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, which include communication (both written and verbal). Project and work approach are team centric, creative, analytical and flexible. Able to deliver high quality clinical project work as assigned daily.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Licensed R.N.
- Valid state driver’s license and proof of auto insurance, if applicable.
