Responsibilities
- Maintains knowledge of relevant standards from OSHA, EPA, The Joint Commission and other regulatory and governmental agencies regarding worker safety, hazardous chemical management, and environment of care standards.
- Provides technical consultation as the subject matter expert to department leaders and principal investigators regarding chemical hazards and hazardous material safety practices, including proper PPE selection & use
- Develops program to reduce/eliminate occupational injuries through ergonomic assessments with recommendations for interventions
- Provides general safety orientation for all new employees of Texas Children's during new employee orientation. Facilitates the annual required training for all employees.
- Conducts and documents all fire drills in each Texas Children's owned building in the Texas Medical Center and the West Campus. Initiates corrective actions, including staff training, following the drills. Documents and reports drill findings to the Environmental Safety Council.
- Submits and updates the high-rise fire response plans for all Texas Children's high rise buildings
- Maintains and ensures compliance with existing regulatory agencies, including required permits, permit renewals and compliance reporting.
- Coordinates the Environment of Care rounding program for all The Joint Commission-licenses areas, including the healthcare, ambulatory, and business occupancies. Provides periodic reports to the Environmental Safety Council in these activities.
- Participates in the assessment, permitting, and ongoing monitoring of renovation and construction projects to ensure compliance with TCH policies and procedures and The Joint Commission standards related to fire and life safety, infection control, and hot works.
- Conducts initial and annual contractor safety training.
- Prepares written summary reports on construction and contractor safety for the Environmental Safety Council and the Infections Committee.
- Facilitates effective communication of construction activities among Facilities Planning & Development, Facilities Engineering and Environmental Services, Risk Management, the effected departments, and the contractors.
- Bachelor's Degree required in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering or a similar field
- 3 years relevant experience required.
