Our client is one of the nation’s largest diversified energy companies. Their electric and gas companies have fueled customer’s homes for more than a century. As Michigan’s largest source of renewable energy, they’re creating a cleaner, healthier environment to power the future.
Their affiliated businesses offer renewable energy, emission control technologies, and energy services to industries in 19 states. The plant produces coke from various types of coal blends and is then used as fuel in the blast furnaces at steel mills.
The work environment is heavy industrial and requires wearing fire retardant clothing, steel-toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses and a respirator (when required in specific areas). The Job Site is an outside plant that may require working at tall heights at times, and exposure to all types of weather conditions including heat of up to 130 degrees in the summer.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains various types of machinery in the coke making process
- Responsible for participating in safety activities to meet or exceed organizational goals and expectations
- Maintains interpersonal relationships with individuals both external and internal to the organization
- Be an active participant of developing and maintaining a culture of professionalism
- Responsible for following all rules, policies, or expectations

Most likely will be on straight days for 1-3 months for training but might end up on this shift schedule eventually. We also have a crew of electricians that work a 5-day, 40hr/ week schedule, and they may end up there, but they may also be bumped to shift should someone with more seniority decide to come to the day shift.
Starting at the top of the 28-day rotation, the employee works
3 midnights, 3 days off,
4 daylights then 7 days off,
4 midnights, 3 days off,
3 daylights and 1 day off.
Then the schedule repeats.
Daylights are 6:30am - 7:00pm and midnights are 6:30pm -7am. There is a 20-minute shower time at the end of shift so they usually go to shower at 6:30 so they can punch out and leave by 7.
We pay that ½ hour.
People love the 7-day weekend once every 28 days, and they love the overtime associated with this schedule. 2 Sundays/month at 1.5X and then anything over 12 is 1.5X also.
Working the above schedule and no additional overtime is around 9-12K additional per year and 13 weeks of vacation if you count the 13, 7-day weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Must have 3 years of heavy industrial experience to provide the following:
- Must have experience with PLC, AC/DC motors, drives, controls and electrical switchgear 480-volt three phase power distribution and starters
- Strong electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Read wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Strong safety experience
- Ability to work in a team oriented atmosphere
- Demonstrated capability to achieve results through people, technology and processing equipment
- Good knowledge of the assigned area(s) of responsibility
- Ability to function within a matrix organization where employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
- Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional and business leader
- Must be goal oriented
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, and management
