How would you contribute? As a Controls Engineer you are a key to continued growth and success of Airlite. This role is responsible for performing repairs, installations, calibration upgrades, design, implement and maintain control systems that involve electrical and PLC components; ensuring the seamless integration of control systems to enhance the efficiency and performance of industrial machinery and manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties:

  • Read and interpret ladder and control diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Perform electrical work with voltages ranging from 480V 3-phase to 24VDC.
  • Draft new designs or redline existing drawings to ensure documentation is current and accurate in AutoCAD.
  • Set up, utilize, and interpret data logging for controls and electrical support and troubleshooting.
  • Utilize computer programming for software development and troubleshooting, which includes, but is not limited to; Rslogix500/5000; Siemen’s step 7/TIA portal; Visual basic, etc.
  • HMI programming in CMORE environment.
  • Performs program backups and disk imaging using the appropriate software.
  • Document work activities in computer logs and keeps accurate preventive maintenance records.
  • In daily work, apply NEC standards to control cabinet layout, design, and wiring.
  • Visually inspect and test machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest tools and technology updates.
  • Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations and justifications for change.
  • Detect malfunctions and discusses machine operation variations with support teams to diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Use creative thinking, analytical, organization, and attention to detail skills to perform routine and non-routine tasks successfully.
  • Project management to include initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure.
  • Responsible for reporting food safety problems to management.
  • Meet safety, housekeeping, and attendance expectations.
  • Work weekends, overtime and holidays as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networks, RS-232 interfaces, Profibus communication, Profinet, etc.
  • Minimum five (5) years Industrial Controls-related experience is required
  • UL508A certification is a plus
  • Familiarity with 70-E safe practices.
  • Proven (demonstrated) ability to design, wire and document complex electrical control systems.
  • Experience identifying, maintaining, retrofitting, troubleshooting, and modifying Motor Controls including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components.
  • Proficiency in computer usage, including MS Office Suite, computer programing, computer networking, software development.
  • Previous experience with mechanical / electrical / controls processes, in a 24 /7 manufacturing environment preferred
  • Proficient in PLC programming and HMI design.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and tactful in dealing with people at all levels.
  • Must be able to work well with others, build partnerships and support team members.
