What You'll Do:
The Indirect Tax Manager furthers James Hardie Building Products Inc. and its related North American subsidiaries Indirect Tax compliance, audit defense, research, consulting, and strategic initiatives. Includes sales/use, GST/HST/PST, VAT, gross receipts, real and personal property taxes, business licenses, business incentives, and other miscellaneous taxes and fees. The role requires advance technical tax knowledge and pertinent experience with Indirect Taxes. It acts as a subject matter expert for business partners and their teams of professionals. This role is a business partner for senior leaders across the North America Business in supporting Indirect Tax implications of new business initiatives, capacity expansions, and Indirect Tax research and advising. This role leads project management, cross-functional engagement, influencing of business operations, processes, procedures, and systems as well as innovation. As well, this role carries responsibility for leading and developing Indirect Tax professionals. This role is expected to identify and research Indirect Tax opportunities and issues related to strategic business objectives, controls, refunds and policy and design. This role develops, documents, and maintains SOX compliance for Indirect Taxes and facilitates transformation, automation, and process improvements.
Works on:

  • Develops and manages the timely, efficient, and accurate tax compliance operations. Includes, business systems operations, tax calculations and analysis, audit defense, tax accounting, filings and payments, data analytics and process controls.
  • Supports innovation and transformation of the Indirect Tax function. Furthers strategic tax initiatives around business processes, technology evolution, and compliance management efficiencies.
  • Provides functional value growing collaboration with internal business partners through visibility and accretive actionable data, knowledge, and risk reduction.
  • Identifies and implements tax technology solutions to achieve tax efficiency and effectiveness. Includes the centralization and systemic integration of procurement taxation among key functional areas.
  • Furthers the automation of data management in respect of internal systems and external reporting.
  • Limiting Indirect Tax risks associated with $3B Sales and $400MM Procurement Cost annually.

Works with:
  • The role leads the Senior Tax Account and Tax Accountant operating under the direction of the Indirect Tax Director.
  • The position partners with multiple cross-functional leaders, external tax agencies, various regulatory authorities, third party consultants, and multiple professional entities.

What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
  • Master's Degree in Tax, CPA, and/or IPT CMI certification preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of Indirect Tax experience including public accounting and /or industry (Ideally Manufacturing). Exposure to Indirect Tax outside the US.
  • Substantiative know how with multi-state procurement taxation. Manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Analytical skills and high-level experience coordinating a multi-state Indirect Tax compliance function.
  • Experienced project management skillset vital for end-to-end development and deployment of process improvements to mitigate risk and add value.
  • Proven digital literacy and experience with applications such as MS Office, SAP, Alteryx, RIA Checkpoint, Vertex, CCH and/or similar automated tax determination and tax filling solutions.
  • Proven and effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Flexible, adaptable, and innovative. Works with complex issues.
  • High level of experience with data analytics, integration, and automation experience preferred.
  • Leadership growth potential. An advancing career with increased knowledge/responsibilities and complex tax issue resolution.
  • Proven understanding of complex tax concepts with ability to complete legal research, apply interpretations to relevant fact patterns, and communicate recommendation in clear and concise manner.
  • Experienced project management skillset vital for end-to-end development and deployment of process improvements to mitigate risk and add value.

The expected pay range for this position is between $118,000 and $150,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, market conditions, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position qualifies for benefits which may also include a discretionary bonus.
