Job Summary
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Emergency training preferred completion of Departmental/Divisional orientation program.;
- Current Registered Nurse licensure/interim work permit from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners;
- Current CPR; ability to obtain ACLS, TNCC, and ENPC or PALS within 12 months of employment;
- Knowledge of age-appropriate assessments, growth and development, pediatric, adult, and geriatric medication administration, appropriate intervention based on assessment, established protocols for Emergency Unit, management of patients with emergent, urgent and non-urgent conditions, and policy and procedures for standards of nursing care;
- Skilled in rapid physical assessments, medication administration, crash cart, and emergency life-saving procedures, assessment of psycho-social needs, technical skills as outlined in nursing procedures, venipuncture, and multi-line management, accessing and care of Port-a-cath, EKG monitoring, defibrillation, cardioversion, endotracheal care, ventilator management, auto-transfusion, and assessing patient's/family's learning needs;
- Ability to implement standards of care, activate and individualized nursing care plans;
- Understands functioning and provides appropriate utilization of equipment;
- Maintains at least six (6) to twelve (12) hours of continuing education in Critical Care Nursing each year.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Review and update care plans per Hospital policy. Integrate the nursing plan with the medical plan of care;
- Perform ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of care, R/T, medications, comfort measures, and patient responses to procedures;
- Assist physicians with procedures with minimal guidance;
- Effectively lead the members of the health care team, use interdisciplinary approach with other Departments;
- Involve family in patient care and teaching/discharge plans. Recognize the need for social service/protective service consults and follow through appropriately;
- Maintains working knowledge of unit structure, policies, and procedures;
- Locates and uses the Unit/Department of Nursing manual;
- Adheres to all Unit/Department safety policies
