Job Title I&E Technician - Camston Wrather
Department Plant Staff
Reports To Maintenance Supervisor
The Instrumentation and Electrical (l&E) Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. The l&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems. The Hourly rate ranges from $28.91 - $35.92 per hour depending on experience.

Job Summary
The l&E Technician operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines. The l&E Technician encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm.
The l&E Technician must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The l&E Technician must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The l&E Technician must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customers' needs are being met.
Job Functions
• Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems.
• Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
• Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
• Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
• Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts.
• Conduct trouble shooting and analysis on Digital Control System, Programmable Logic Controller and SCADA systems.
• Complete other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• The l&E Technician works in cooperation with the operations personnel on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.
Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
• Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and two years of work experience
as a technician in a related industry desirable.
• Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
• Four years' work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for the above requirement.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique I&E problems is desirable.
• Must be able to work from blueprints.
• Must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
• Must successfully complete an I&E test.
• Must have excellent organizational skills. Experience in working with voltages up to 480 volts highly desirable. Must have strong personal computer skills.

• Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
• Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
• Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of industrial equipment.
• Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
• Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
• Basic data entry/computer skills.
• Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.
Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
• Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
• Work with hazardous materials may be required.
• Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12 hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
• Includes working indoors and outdoors.

• Physical requirements include: possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and
ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
• All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post offer
physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
• Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat and cold conditions.
