Job Description
The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Mechanic II installs, modifies, and repairs refrigeration units to 1,100 tons, including hermetic, semi-hermetic, mechanical, screw, scroll, and centrifugal units.
This is a union contract position which requires on-site presence at the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) facility at Research Triangle Park (RTP) in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Performs work on air conditioning ventilation systems, reverse osmosis systems, computer room systems; process coolers, ice machines, evaporative cooling systems, air compressing and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems equipment.
- Performs installation tasks involving assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting of temperature control and environmental control systems such as air conditioning plants, air environmental control systems, air distribution systems and complex dual equipment cooling installations, specialized refrigerated warehouses and facilities, and evaporative mechanical ventilation, and dehumidification systems.
- Installs new or repaired components and performs complex modifications of systems and components in accordance with applicable electrical publications and directives and will maintain and repair specialized laboratory equipment such as fume hoods, de-ionized water systems, bio-clean systems, vacuum systems, cascade refrigeration systems, and laboratory sinks.
- Performs complex repair of systems component such as compressors, condensers, heat pump regulators, fluid and refrigerant gas lines valves, meters, gauges, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, and electrical sensing, switching and controlling devices, including pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital controlled devices, electronic, hydraulic heating and cooling and economizer systems.
- Performs heating and cooling water treatment checking for target pH and chemical concentration levels as determined by a heating cooling water chemist and makes adjustments to treatment chemical level as required.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and other technical documents..
- Receive and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner, completing forms and checklists manually on paper, and digitally.
- Provides troubleshooting support and mentorship or guidance to technician teammates.
- Ascends ladders and lifts, as necessary.
- Inspect jobs upon completion to ensure areas are clean.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Requirements
- Heating Group 3 - Class I H3C1 License from the NC board of examiners for Plumbing Heating and Fire Sprinklers Contractors
- 2+ years’ experience in installation, programming, and troubleshooting of Building Automation Control Systems (BAS)
- Possess own position-related hand tools for use on job site.
- 18+ years of age or older
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Must have transportation to and from Company office.
- Possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Be able to lift fifty to sixty pounds (50 - 60 lbs.)
- Be able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as scheduled.
- Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen
- Ability to obtain facility/site security and access credentials.
- Be able to work alternate shifts, overtime, nights, and weekends as scheduled or as needed.
- Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
- Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date.
