Jr. Buyer Internship
Reports To: Procurement Manager
Position Summary:
Hunt Valve Company has been manufacturing shipboard valves for naval customers for decades. The company, now part of Fairbanks Morse Defense, is rapidly growing and looking for a Jr. Buyer Intern for the purchasing department. This position would directly support the purchasing team in day-to-day activities to ensure work progresses on schedule and with high quality. Hunt offers a unique working environment that allows a hands-on individual to develop and grow as the company expands its footprint and maintains high performance as a trusted defense contractor.
As an Intern, you will be taking on impactful work, while engaging in a dynamic learning experience, and working as a valued member of our team. Opportunities exist for students who are pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree, have completed at least their sophomore year by the start of the internship, and hold a minimum GPA of 3.00.
General internship requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Sponsorship for employment visas is not available for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited to, reference verification, post-offer drug testing and background check
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Must have access to reliable transportation

Essential Job Functions:
  • Issuing RFQs and purchase orders timely to support production.
  • Managing supplier due dates and expediting crucial orders
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers.
  • Work with planning and operations to support manufacturing schedules.
  • Assist with payables and invoicing questions/issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Skills Desired:
  • High School Diploma. CPM certification is a plus.
  • Analytical and financial skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Understanding of an ERP system
  • Skilled in Excel, Word, Power-Point
  • Basic understanding of blueprints and drawings
  • Negotiate terms and pricing with suppliers.

  • Working hours as agreed and giving advance notice of any necessary schedule changes
  • Adherence to dress code, which is casual but appropriate for an office environment
