Position Purpose
Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resource Specialist aids and facilitates a wide variety of complex and confidential human resource processes for all district employees. This position resolves certification questions, benefits-related problems, and supports positive employee relations. The Human Resource Specialist ensures that internal processes are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and local district policy. This role provides administrative support to the human resource function as needed, including record-keeping, file maintenance, and data entry.
Essential Functions
  • Coordinates state health insurance for district employees, including enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Conducts on-boarding for new employees
  • Conducts certification transactions with the GaPSC; processes certificate applications, renewals, and upgrades
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions
  • Assists with recruitment and retention of employees
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation, and maintains I-9 files
  • Assists with new-employee background checks; maintains updated background checks in accordance with state and federal law
  • Schedules meetings and interviews as requested by the Director of Human Resources
  • Makes photocopies, scans, mails, and emails documents and performs other clerical functions
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files
  • Maintains accurate and complete employee records
  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested
  • Prepares new employee files
  • Composes documents (e.g., correspondence, bulletins, reports) for the Director of Human Resources for the purpose of requesting or providing information, confirming events, etc.
  • Assists in coordinating Human Resources Department activities and functional responsibilities related to areas over which the Department has oversight
  • Assists in maintaining the daily/weekly/monthly calendar of the Department Head for the purpose of coordinating the scheduling of work-related appointments, activities, meetings, etc.
  • Assists in planning and scheduling department events and activities, and maintaining calendar of department events
  • Assists in maintaining documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance
  • Serves as liaison with outside organizations related to department activities and work
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills; ability to demonstrate a calm demeanor at all times
  • Knowledge of office management procedures
  • Proficient with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

Qualifications Profile
  • High School diploma
  • College level course work in business, word processing, and/or office procedures
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field (preferred) and/or equivalent experience
  • Successful experience with office management in related area preferred

FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Full time position
