Summary This position provides administrative support in a fast-paced environment within the benefits division of Human Resources, this position will perform a wide scope of technical administrative duties and customer service functions related to benefits administration, while exercising considerable initiative, follow through, and confidentiality in the performance of the job.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Performs administrative support for the benefit division of Human Resources. Answers all incoming benefits division calls, responds to benefits email inquiries, and assists with visitors. Maintains benefits eligibility in the Peoplesoft and Worklife systems.

This includes data entry, benefits changes, court orders and eligibility verifications. Resolve eligibility, claims and general issues with benefits vendors, employees and retirees. Assist with file administration, includes eligibility files, compliance files, membership files, and deduction files.

Completes daily mail responsibilities; distribution, return mail processing, address updates. Responsible for reviewing and releasing all scanned benefits documents. Responsible for various reporting, to include, new hire reports, dependent verification reports, and evidence of insurability reports.

Responsible for weekly and monthly employee benefits notifications, such as benefits termination and portability forms. Provides front line benefits customer service for employees, retirees and public inquiries. Assist with organizing divisional events and special projects as assigned.

Performs other administrative and support duties as required and assigned Preferred Qualification Knowledge of benefits administration preferred. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Strong Customer service skills and ability to demonstrate patience and professionalism when responding to employee and retiree inquiries. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with people at all levels of tan organization, internal and external.

knowledge of employee benefits with an ability to be detail-oriented and highly organized. High level of skill in handling sensitive and confidential situations and information. Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Ability to learn new task and computer based technology programs. Ability to effectively and discreetly convey information. Ability to prioritize work assignments, work independently, and meet established deadlines.

Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize complex data, and to prepare reports from such records. Minimum Qualifications High School Graduate or Equivalent and one year(s) of related work experience. of professional administrative support experience supporting several managers in a fast-paced environment or an Associate's degree earned from an accredited college/university in Business Administration or related field with less than one year of experience.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. OR 2 Year College Degree Requires the demonstrated knowledge of business office operations and procedures. Salary $45,615 up to $57,018/yr Conditions of Employment The City's Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.

The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check. Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate's written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
