CVM Human Resources is a centralized college department that supports all college HR functions and coordinates university consistent programs and processes that are aimed at improving the college’s community and culture. The CVM HR department is a highly dedicated team of HR professionals supporting a community of over 1,900 faculty, staff, house officers, post docs, graduate and student workers, temporary employees, visitors, and adjunct faculty in the full employment cycle and aligns the HR function to the strategy and goals of the college and ultimately the university.
The primary function of the HR Specialist will be to provide oversight of the college wide timekeeping system and payroll processes, such as additional and/or supplemental pay actions.
Other functions of the position will be to provide HR administrative support to all areas of HR (class & comp, recruitment, etc.).This position regularly interacts with and serves as a liaison to internal and external customers.
Timekeeping: Monitors and works with departmental timekeepers to ensure monthly and biweekly timesheets are approved in a timely manner. May have to serve as backup and work closely with managers to resolve timekeeping errors. Must work closely with University HR system team members to resolve broader system issues and resolve at the local level. Balance and verify timesheets on a monthly basis.
Payroll: Works closely with hospital managers and employees in processing comp-on-demand payments on a monthly basis. Ensures biweekly on-call timesheets are processed and submitted to University Payroll Office in a timely fashion.
Generalist and programmatic support duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting with HR system action request (JAR) process for the College,
- Develop queries and reports, and
- Coordination of department work which includes:
- electronic filing,
- HRIM data entry management,
- Performance management,
- College-level timekeeping oversight, and
- Assisting with recruitment and hiring processes by creating and sending employment correspondence.
Additionally, the position will have oversight of the following duties:
- Ensure compliance and support Environmental Health’s Animal Contact and Rabies Vaccination monitoring process.
- Manages employee recognition programs, such as Pride of the WolfPack and coordinates benefit events.
- Backs up other members of the CVM-HR team as needed. Serves on work teams and committees as requested.
- Develops content for updating CVM-HR web pages at the discretion of the Assistant Dean, CVM HR.
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work effectively with administration, faculty and staff at all levels.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint (or similar software).
- Strong attention to detail; able to assess and meet the needs of customers; strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and meet multiple objectives and deadlines.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, precedents and best practices affecting all areas of HR.
- Ability to identify, understand and provide possible resolutions for issues and problems that impact client services.
- Experience using PeopleSoft HR, including system entry and ability to query and analyze data for various reporting needs.
- Experience managing timekeeping administration and/or other HR programs.
- Experience with NC State policies and procedures related to timekeeping, as well as state and federal laws related to timekeeping.
