The Franklin County Auditor’s Office is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join the Human Resources team.

What will you do?
Assists in cultivating a new hire welcoming experience for employees; prepares materials for new hire orientation; facilitates new hire orientation and provides information regarding benefit and payroll deductions; processes new hire paperwork.
Serves as the point of contact for general benefit related questions. Participates in county-wide open enrollment meetings; represents HR on the wellness committee; assists with county wide health and wellness initiatives and promotions, including the development and/or distribution of promotional materials; produces a monthly benefits, wellness, and safety newsletter. Regularly communicates with office staff on benefit related offerings.
Serves as back-up to payroll processing, processes payroll on a monthly basis. May assist with processing rate adjustments, step increases, benefit deduction changes. Assist with end of the year payroll activities.
Assists with recruitment efforts; updates position descriptions, may post job vacancies, may screen applicants to determine if the minimum qualifications have been met, coordinates the scheduling of interviews, interviews applicants and participates in the selection of qualified candidates; attends career fairs and community networking events; may assist with references and driving checks.
Assists with employee recognition, DEIB, and employee engagement programs; coordinates officewide training.
Serves as the point of contact for all safety related matters, including, but not limited to injury reporting and emergency response; trains staff on proper safety measures; holds regular meetings with the safety committee, and participates in safety related office and county-wide drills.
Maintains personnel files including medical and disciplinary files; scans documents before placing them in the personnel files; purges files and sends to records maintenance in accordance with agency Records Retention Schedule.
Assists with HR audits including, but not limited to I-9 audits and EEOC filings. Process employment and income verification requests; May occasionally back up the front desk.
Prepares confidential correspondence for the Human Resources Office; may take notes during meetings and/or investigations; prepares reports and surveys on behalf of the Human Resources Director; performs special administrative and confidential projects as directed.
Who should apply?
We encourage individuals with an associate degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources or other related discipline; two (2) or more years of related Human Resources experience with an emphasis on employee benefits and onboarding, payroll processing; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
