Title:Human Resources Communications Specialist

Location: Hybrid (Washington, DC Metropolitan Area)

Role:

The Human Resources Communications Specialist provides sole editorial support for human resource-related correspondence, including memos, letters, forms, marketing materials, newsletters, emails, and position descriptions. In collaboration with the human resource team, the resource independently produces high-quality, error-free, impactful communications products as well as provides contributions to co-created products. The resource balances multiple concurrent task assignments and handles various editorial tasks seamlessly, including fact-checking and document conversion. The resource applies a combination of human resource management knowledge, editorial acumen, and project management skills to work tasks and products.

Duties:

The Human Resources Communications Specialist:

  • Effectively collaborate with senior human resource team members to prepare high-quality communications products that achieve stated objectives and ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency of communications.
  • Ensure that each communication product aligns with the human resource team's strategic communications approach.
  • Apply editorial skills to rewrite sentences for readability and apply copy editing principles to grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style.
  • Perform thorough fact-checking to verify the accuracy of information presented in correspondence.
  • Convert PDFs to Word files and correct garbled or missing text.
  • Convert Word files to PDFs and create fillable forms.
  • Perform accessibility checks and adjust communication products to ensure products are in compliance with relevant accessibility policies.

Required Skills:

  • At least four (4) years of experience in Human Resources management.
  • Knowledge of human resource best practices.
  • Expert skills in editing, writing, and project management.
  • Knowledge of Federal government style manuals and plain language standards, as relevant.
  • Ability to adhere to style guides, maintain brand consistency, and apply plain language principles to enhance communication effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of the Federal government laws, regulations, policies, processes, and procedures relevant to the role.
  • Knowledge of Federal government accessibility policies (e.g., Section 508 Amendment to the 1973 Rehabilitation Act).
  • Excellent demonstration of computer literacy skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite programs.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and oversee multiple projects simultaneously and meet stakeholder expectations and deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible, resourceful, organized, and work in a fast-paced business environment with special requests.
