Job description

This is a full-time exempt position, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. $24.18-$32.90 DOE.

Not eligible for hybrid/remote work

In accordance with Assets, Inc. core values and mission, this position is responsible for the administration of all the benefit programs (group health, dental, vision, life, 401(K), FSA, voluntary benefits and workers’ compensation) in addition to the administration of FMLA, ADA, COBRA, tuition reimbursement and unemployment insurance claims.  This position works under the general guidance and supervision of the Sr. Human Resource Manager.

This position may require de-escalating verbally or physically aggressive individuals according to identified procedures and protocols.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Adheres to and demonstrates Assets, Inc. core values, mission, policies, procedures and compliance plan in the performance of all aspects of this position.
  2. Administration of the company’s benefit portfolio including medical, dental, FSA, life, disability, health and welfare benefits, voluntary benefits, 401(K), etc. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Inputting benefits related data in the HRIS as well as vendor sites as applicable for enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, leaves-of-absence, loans and withdrawals.
  • Handles benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Maintains contact in person, phone or mail with insurance companies, employees, brokers, and beneficiaries to facility proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA, ADA and workers’ compensation implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork.
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Assists Sr. Human Resource Manager in annual plan audit.
  • Updates HRIS system to ensure accurate ACA reporting.
  • Gathers data and processes monthly benefit invoice processing and prepares vouchers for payment of fees for all group plans.
  • Creating reports and analysis using the HRIS and other software, as required.
  • Designs and distributes materials for benefit orientations, open enrollment, SPD/SMM and required notices.
  • Completes required notices for timely submission of workers’ compensation claims to TPA and/or government agency.
  • Maintains OSHA logs, files reports as required.
  • Files papers and documents into appropriate files; performs paper and system audits as necessary.
  • Serves as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
  1. Recommends and implements benefit programs.
  2. Completes company required training and participates in on-going professional development/growth.
  3. Assists Sr. HR Manager and works collaboratively with the rest of the HR Team on a variety of human resources related projects and initiatives.
  4. Primary back up for conducting new hire intakes in accordance with internal procedures and standards.
  • Assists new employees with new hire paperwork
  • Verifies and maintains I-9 Forms.
  • Processing background check requests and results.
  • Fingerprinting new employee.
  • Maintaining the background check database.
  • Processing background check related payments.
  • Completes new hire benefit paperwork and enrollments.
  1. Has the capability to set high standards, take ownership and drive accountability for results.
  2. Remains up-to-date on relevant federal and state employment laws and other human resources compliance issues.
  3. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent in Human Resources, Business Administration, Adult Education or related field.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of progressively responsible human resources generalist/management experience in areas including recruitment, training and development, employment law, benefits administration. 
  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefit programs including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers’ compensation COBRA and DOL requirements.
  • Professional in Human Resource (PHR) certification strongly preferred.

 

Language Skills:    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills:     Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:    Valid Alaska driver’s license and an insured vehicle or alternate means of transportation. Must be able to pass a criminal background check under state regulations. Must provide proof of educational credentials (if applicable) at time of hire.

  1. Advanced MS Office skills to include Word, Excel, and Outlook and ability to learn proprietary systems.

  4. Demonstrated ability to support and effectively conduct trainings for a diverse staff population including individuals with disabilities with varying support strategy needs.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in a team setting, and be highly self-directed, attention to detail and able to effectively prioritize multiple projects.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound judgment call
  7. Experience using effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy, and tact to build credibility and strong, professional relationships with all levels of the organization.
