Responsibilities*
Comprehensive HR Consultation and Strategy
Provide expert HR consulting and strategic guidance to support Faculty, Staff, and Students as appropriate promoting the achievement of department and Institute objectives. Foster colleagues' professional growth and career development through development of ISR and U-M HR strategies. Comprehensive HR Consultation and Strategy.
Communication, Collaboration and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, (DEI) Support
Collaborate and liaise with peers and internal stakeholders across ISR, other schools and units, University HR, and partners such as Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Work Connections, Shared Services and Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX, MHealthy, and Organizational Learning, as appropriate to support strong working relationships. Partner with University and Institute DEI colleagues to cultivate an inclusive workplace culture, promoting diversity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging among colleagues.
Recruitment and Retention Guidance
Advise hiring managers on effective recruitment strategies and assist in implementation of sourcing a high-quality diverse applicant pool. Consult with managers on strategic compensation practices and non-financial recognition methods, ensuring employees are fairly compensated and recognized for their contributions to support employee retention.
Performance Management, Employee Relations & HR Practices and Policies
Provide guidance to managers on performance management, addressing misconduct, managing attendance, and other employee relations matters ensuring fair and consistent practices within University and ISR Policies and Practices. Consistently make recommendations that are in compliance with Federal and State legislation. Contribute to the development and implementation of new HR practices, policies, and tools. Review and refine existing ISR policies as appropriate in collaboration with the ISR HR team to align with University and Institutes standards,
HR Transactions and Data Management
Serve as a point of contact for appointment change processes; collaborate with the ISR HR team to process HR transactions utilizing the Personnel Action Request (PAR) system. Ensure accuracy in HR data changes and meeting deadlines on both PAR requests processed and PAR approvals. Assist in the preparation of data driven reports to provide Institute leadership with information to assist in understanding the workforce.
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources (HR), Business, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of at least five years of progressive HR generalist experience; demonstrating expertise in recruiting, performance management, employee relations, and training and development.
  • Knowledge and previous experience with the laws, principles, practices, and procedures relevant to HR.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee and business information with utmost confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to manage time, assignments, and projects effectively, including consistent follow-up to keep stakeholders informed about progress.
  • Strong compensation knowledge with prior experience in job analysis, reviewing promotion/reclassification requests, knowledge of general compensation practices and experience administering merit increases.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • Experience with an HR ERP software platform such as Peoplesoft or Workday and familiarity with applicant tracking system(s).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analytics, interpreting and providing explanations of HR data.
  • Knowledge of Google applications and Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Desired Qualifications*
  • A Master's Degree in Human Resources or Organizational/Industrial Psychology or related field.
  • Experience in a higher education business setting with knowledge of academic HR.
  • Knowledge of higher education policies and systems, such as University of Michigan.
  • Proficiency with the University M-Pathways, HR System, Business Objects and MReports.

Work Schedule
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, working at least three days per week on-site in Ann Arbor, MI after an initial training period. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.
Underfill Statement
The requirements listed reflect an HR Generalist Senior level expectation with a salary range of $80,000 - $92,000. Candidates with lesser experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the primary goal is not met as an HR Generalist Intermediate. Candidates with 3-5 years of related experience will have a salary range of $65,000 - $72,000. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge and skills for the position.
