HR Business Partner

We're looking for someone to join our People team as an HR Business Partner to take on the responsibility of helping us scale, nurture, and optimize our secret weapon - our people. You'll think through ways to help us maintain a strong culture while we scale our business, shape solutions related to organizational health, implement people-related processes that cultivate high performing teams, and promote an engaging work environment that nurtures both productivity and personal enrichment/development. You'll do this by ensuring that our company adheres to all legal and compliance standards, internal policies and procedures, as well as provide strategic HR guidance, resolve employee relations issues, and work with managers to improve work relationships and productivity. You'll work cross-functionally with the management and executive team to ensure visibility into macro business priorities that will drive your work. This is an individual contributor position and will not have any direct reports at this time.
This role will report to Dale Um, VP of Operations. Although we have office locations in Portland, OR, New York City, and London, UK, we are open to this role being completely remote anywhere in the US as long as they are able to work EST office hours.

You'll be responsible for:
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations in both the US and the UK to maintain compliance and reduce legal risks.
- Providing HR policy guidance, recommending best practices, and helping to create and implement internal policies and procedures.
- Managing our current HRIS and PEO systems (i.e. Humaans, Lattice, Justworks, etc.) as well as helping to identify future needs
- Maintaining employee records, managing visa and work permit processes for international employees, and staying updated with legal changes
- Managing employee background checks, right to work verifications, and assisting with onboarding and offboarding of employees, including the creation and distribution of new employment contracts, employee separation notices, and other related documentation
- Liaising with Finance team to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll together with associated social security and tax obligations
- Overseeing and administering employee benefits
- Providing HR expertise in the areas of feedback, employee relations, development and coaching, compensation benchmarking, and organizational development
- Working closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale and increase productivity and retention
Who you are:
- An HR professional with at least 7-8 years of experience working in Human Resources field
- General knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel administration
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with peers and employees and handle sensitive employee data or reports in a discreet manner
- Confidence to present information and make recommendations effectively in oral and written form to both peers and executive leadership
- Excellent planning, problem-solving, and collaborative skills
- Superb analytical and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Collaborative, goal oriented, and supportive mindset
Preferred Qualifications / Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Regulatory Affairs, or HR preferred
- Hands on experience with record keeping and documentation management
- HR or Compliance certifications preferred (i.e. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CHRP, etc.)
- Expert knowledge of legislation and regulations preferred
- Payroll and tax administration experience preferred but not required
- Experience working with employee work permits and visa sponsorships preferred
- Demonstrable experience with HR metrics

Salary range: $120k - $140k
