Housing Works fights for funding and legislation to ensure that all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, HIV prevention, and treatment, among other lifesaving services.

Compensation Range: $60,000 - $65,000 annually commensurate with experience
Overview:

In collaboration between Housing Works Inc. and the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ), the Emergency and Transitional Housing (ETH) Program will provide individuals involved in the criminal legal system experiencing housing insecurity, or chronic homelessness, with transitional housing placement and reentry support services with the goal of providing assistance with more permanent housing solutions. This housing program operates utilizing hotels across NYC boroughs and offers medical, behavior health, reentry support services, connection to additional health and wellness services and housing placement assistance to residents enrolled to promote positive reintegration to the five borough communities, reduce recidivism and build stronger, safer communities. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Transitional Housing Support Services, the Housing Specialist Supervisor (Coordinator) will responsible for supervising the Housing Specialists across the MOCJ Transitional Housing locations, engage in quality assurance measures to ensure contract compliance for housing milestones, engage in quality improvement projects and provide guidance and expertise regarding NYC housing resources.
Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing and maintaining relationships with NYC housing programs, real estate brokers, private landlords and management companies.
  • Responsible for overall leadership for the housing placement component of the ETH Program.
  • Provide supportive individual supervision for the Housing Specialists.
  • Provide oversight and clinical guidance to Housing Specialists to establish housing goals with clients and develop creative solutions for more permanent placement.
  • Facilitate staff and client groups and trainings pertaining to housing placement resources, options and alternatives.
  • Submit daily, weekly, monthly and adhoc reports as needed and in a timely manner.
  • Engage in quality assurance measures to ensure contract deliverables are met and documented as they pertain to housing placement.
  • Develop and implement quality improvement projects.
  • Facilitate team meetings.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Conduct weekly site visits to all Transitional Housing locations.
  • Work collaboratively with all teams and departments to promote successful program outcomes.
  • Actively participate in supervision.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Maintain a caseload of clients if needed.
  • Assist with talent acquisition efforts.
  • Attend special events or networking events to promote program services and establish relationships with other key stakeholders.
  • Promotes Housing Works' core values in day to day activities.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide culturally competent services in accordance to Housing Works policies and practices.
  • Participates in trainings, or other professional development activities, to enhance skills.
  • Engages in advocacy efforts in accordance to agency requirements.
  • Ability to work with clients with diverse clients with varying levels of service needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other team members and departments across the agency.
  • Attend and participate staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Responsiveness to emails, texts and phone calls.
  • Ability to work flexible, pre-scheduled hours to meet the needs of the client population.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required in social services, psychology, social work or other related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience providing housing placement assistance services.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of NYC and NYS housing vouchers and housing application processes.
  • Prefer experience working with individuals involved in the criminal legal system, as well as substance use and mental health issues.
  • Prior experience providing direct care to clients.
  • Prior experience working in a congregate housing setting.
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously
  • Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required
  • Experience utilizing EMR systems.
  • Preferably bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent or proficient technical skills to perform tasks related to Microsoft Office, email and case management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
  • Dependability and reliability to arrive and depart timely for scheduled shift.
  • Ability to frequently travel within the boroughs via public transportation.
