HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services is a non-profit agency serving individuals, children, and families living in New York City. The Housing Specialist under the Program Director’s supervision, is responsible for identifying permanent housing for youths residing in the CCRS and Refocus Programs.
Responsibilities:
- The Housing Specialist will also be responsible for conducting a housing assessment to determine housing readiness, and other housing needs.
- S/he will assist clients in the completion of applications for housing and rental subsidy programs, and conduct housing counseling.
- S/he will escort clients to subsidized housing, realtors, landlord, and community based agencies.
- S/he will accompany clients to apartment visits and lease signings.
- S/he will establish linkages with real estate brokers and landlords, utilize media resources such as the internet to identify available apartments. S/he will maintain detailed participant notes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field geared towards providing social service
- Minimum of two years of experience in housing placement services.
- Must have excellent communications and writing skills
- Valid NYS driver’s license a plus
- Familiarity with CAP system and HRA2010e application process
- Must combine excellent interpersonal skills with strong leadership abilities.
- Ability to interact effectively with multi-disciplinary staff and community partners
- Must have the ability to maintain a flexible schedule when emergency duties or deadlines require it.
- Demonstrates mature and able to communicate clearly and effectively with clinical professionals, challenging clients who are often in compromised states of mental health, and internal staff
- Personable and able to empathize with others
- Able to maintain professional boundaries
