The Role: Housing Specialist
What You'll Do: You'll work with the case management team in a specific permanent supportive housing (PSH) program(s) to ensure that formerly homeless participants secure and maintain affordable, safe and decent housing in the community.
- Conduct intake, housing barrier assessments, housing plans, annual/interim re-certifications for each participant
- Assist participants in locating/securing permanent housing, act as liaison between participants, landlords and case managers, actively outreaching and recruiting landlords
- Conduct and document initial and annual HQS inspections, case closures/terminations
- Monitor and facilitate participant moves/relocations, acting as a resource for internal and/or partner agency case managers in locating affordable housing
- Complete HMIS documentation as required by HUD, adhering with VSH, HUD and other funder regulations
What You'll Bring to VSH:
- A Bachelor's degree and professional experience in housing counseling and property management preferred
- One year experience working with low income and/or homeless adults required
- HQS inspection training/certification within 3 months of hire
- Knowledge of homeless population resources and Fair Housing and Tenant-Landlord laws preferred
- Excellent computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Valid VA Driver's license and reliable transportation - you'll perform some local travel
