Client Services Coordinator – Shelter Manager
(Full-Time, Salaried Non-Exempt, Level 3)
Responsible to: Associate Director
Primary Focus: Equal focus sexual and domestic violence
Funding Sources: DCJS 35% VDSSDV 65% 2080 hours
The Client Services Coordinator (CSC) Shelter Manager will respond to sexual and/or domestic violence issues according to grant objectives primarily through the provision of direct services, and will be responsible for assuring client self-sufficiency and sustainable change through the following coaching and empowering strategies (comprising 90% of work time). Responsibilities include:
- Exhibit congruence between the mission and values of James House and interactions with the community/clients
- Thoroughly understand and abide by James House’s policies and correctly implement all procedures
- Respond quickly and appropriately to hotline calls from survivors, family members and friends, and other service providers
- Provide voluntary trauma-informed, culturally sensitive services, including, but not limited to:
- Counseling support, advocacy and support groups as needed
- Case management coordination to meet client needs including shelter, court and/or hospital accompaniment, and transportation as needed
- Support for clients as they develop safety plans, build support networks, process trauma, and heal from abuse
- Relevant and appropriate referrals for client’s legal, medical, financial, housing and related needs
- Using the voluntary service model, manage the day-to-day activity in the shelter, including ensuring safety and security of clients, ensuring cleanliness of the facilities, and ensuring client needs are met
- Act as a liaison between the agency and the building owner and staff in order to ensure confidentiality and client safety
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation and reports, including Documenting Our Work, client satisfaction surveys and VAdata
In order to actively promote James House’s mission, the Client Services Coordinator will support the following activities: (comprising 10% of time)
- Respond appropriately to hotline calls from survivors, family members and friends, and other service providers as needed
- Foster organizational and infrastructure development
- Organize and/or participate in community events, forums, training events and in cultural celebrations
- Conduct basic administrative/maintenance tasks to contribute to smooth functioning of office operations
- Housekeeping
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Two or more years of education in the field of social work/health and human services and/or experience with sexual violence and/or domestic violence from a trauma-informed perspective
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Ability to maintain a compassionate and professional approach while working with people in crisis situations, who are of diverse ethnic, religious, national, educational, language, sexual orientation, cultural, and class backgrounds.
- Excellent writing, public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to multi-task
- Strong computer skills, experience with google tools and Microsoft products
- Demonstrate effective, critical thinking strategies and appropriate decision making
- Knowledge of the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties, reliable transportation, a valid VA state driver’s license, and in force automobile insurance
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Successful background check
