Full Job Description:
The role of the Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) Housing Coordinator is to assist clients with obtaining and maintaining housing. The Staff will assist clients with planning for, finding, and moving to their own homes in the community. The Staff will also assist clients with maintaining housing in their own homes in the community. The staff will provide services in the three categories of the Housing Stabilization Services program. Housing Consultation, Housing Transitioning, and Housing Sustaining.

The Staff will assist clients with planning for, finding, and moving to their own homes in the community. The Staff will also assist clients with maintaining housing in their own homes in the community. The staff will provide services in the three categories of the Housing Stabilization Services program. Housing Consultation, Housing Transitioning, and Housing Sustaining.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
• Respond promptly to referrals of new clients, including completing the intake form and assessing the client’s needs and preferences and keeping a client housing progress notes organized and up to date.
• Advocate for affordable and accessible housing, employment opportunities, and adequate and accessible transportation.
• Good knowledge of the Twin Cities area and other partnering counties.
• Knowledge of benefits/ assistance programs in Minnesota
• Be professional in representing Safe Heaven while in meetings throughout the greater community.
• Be professional in representing Safe Heaven to landlords/property managers to expand the network of properties that house people with developmental disabilities.
• Identify opportunities for housing advocacy and collaborate with fellow Housing Coordinators.
Position Requirements:
• Knowledge of affordable housing/housing issues faced by people with developmental disabilities.
• Active listening skills/commitment to fully understand the client’s perspective.
• Ability to communicate difficult and complex housing choices to clients with various listening and processing challenges.
• Ability to maintain a non-judgmental, non-reactionary, and non-defensive communication style during challenging discussions.
• Exceptional personal skills that permit the candidate to work with a diverse community and build collaborative relationships with various community stakeholders.
• Critical thinking skills that enable the candidate to make sound judgments in developing and time-sensitive situations.
• Ability to responsibly prioritize competing tasks but also follow through on time.
• Capacity to follow Safe Haven’s record-keeping/reporting protocols.
• Ability/Desire to work cooperatively as a time with other staff, the client, and the client’s circle of support.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
• Ability to engage in extensive periods of computer work.
• Ability to drive to multiple offices and residential locations.
• Ability to sit at a desk for periods of several hours.
• Ability to sit for meetings that may last for several hours.
