Housing and Supports Specialist

The Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) is a disability-focused non-profit providing services and advocacy to those experiencing all disabilities, of all ages, and all income levels. Our mission is to promote independent living and full access for individuals with disabilities through advocacy, education and action in our communities.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Provide person-centered counseling to identify individual goals and needs to inform consumers of service options;
- In conjunction with consumers, develop and implement individualized independent living plans (goals);
- Conduct consumer intakes, needs assessments, and follow up procedures;
- Utilize no wrong door policy when providing referrals, both internal and external;
- Advocate with consumers when access rights are limited or denied;
- Maintains detailed knowledge of programs, resources, and organizations in North Santa Barbara County that can support increased or maintained independence;
- Builds relationships with and maintains detailed knowledge of subsidized housing programs, resources, and organizations in North Santa Barbara County;
- Train consumers in housing search skills and access to housing benefits/programs;
- Provide information regarding disability related resources and services and make referrals between consumers and community contacts for appropriate assistance/services;
- Provide independent living skills training (ILS) to enable consumers to achieve housing, in-home care, and self-advocacy goals;
- Maintain Personal Assistant (PA) Registry (QuickMatch), including: recruitment, interviewing and refer potential PAs to consumers;
- Maintain digital consumer files and document all services provided in a timely manner;
- Represent ILRC at community events and committees;
- Provide Spanish language access to consumers by translating materials and appointments with other staff;
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and any recommended trainings;
- Promote harmonious working relationships, participate fully as a member of working team, conduct ILRC business in a professional manner;
Essential Qualifications:
- Familiarity with human services programs affecting persons w/disabilities of all ages;
- Motivating interest in disability/independent living field;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience working with persons with disabilities and older adults with emphasis in the areas of advocacy, housing assistance, and community access issues;
- Ability to implement training various service delivery models;
- Ability to meet deadlines;
- Experience with service documentation;
- Computer skills including data, social media, and research;
- Reliable personal vehicle for work travel;
- Must maintain valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record;
- Ethical work practices: honest, dependable, team-oriented;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Personal experience with disability
- Bilingual English/Spanish

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
