- Assists in developing, maintaining, and evaluating staff competency and patient care delivery processes to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Coordinates shift staffing levels based on patient volume acuity.
- In conjunction with unit manager/clinical supervisor, identifies patient care delivery issues. For example, staff competency, work processes, equipment needs. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to place patients for optimum setting.
- Measures current processes against best practice.
- Develops educational offerings based on identified needs to meet the goals.
- Provides the educational offerings based on identified needs to meet the unit goals.
- Applies the adult learning principals to all educational offerings.
- Utilizes research based principles in the education of staff and patients.
- Collaborates with patient care units in the evaluation of clinical service delivery.
- Evaluates staff competency on an ongoing basis. Collaborates with the patient care units to systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
- Utilizes process improvement, risk reduction and identification/analysis of care delivery variances to sustain quality of care and continually improve the performance of work processes.
- Assists in data collection process to facilitate unit staff performance appraisals.
- Functions as a role model/mentor and a clinical resource.
Note: Failure to adhere to McLaren Northern Michigan core values AT ALL TIMES AT WORK or to complete less than 100% of training and in-service requirements will result in no pay increase for the year.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
- Five years of nursing experience in a clinical setting.
- ACLS certified if working Cardiac Cath Lab, CVU, ICU, Emergency Dept., Nursing Resource Pool, Ambulatory Surgery or Surgical Services. Certifications (BLS, ACLS, ALS, PALS) must be issued directly by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Previous leadership experience.
- Bachelors of Science, Nursing from an accredited school
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITLIES
- Hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills for operation of small office equipment.
- Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with patients, families, co-workers, and the multidisciplinary team to effectively manage a care center.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to interpret, synthesizes, prioritize information using short and long term memory for making immediate judgments and managing urgent situations.
- Proficient with all age groups within defined patient populations. Demonstrates sensitivity when interacting with diverse ethnic groups.
