JOB TITLE: Hostess

DEPARTMENT: Front of house

RESPORTS TO: General Manager, AGM, Restaurant Manager, Head Maitre'D

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The role of Hostess is customer facing, you will greet guests, check and take reservations and assist in planning of special events. Your service will be to the highest quality and professionalism. To engage with guests, giving product information and advice. To take part in cloakroom duties and assist guests when they are leaving the venue.

MAIN DUTIES:

TO BE THE FIRST/LAST POINT OF CONTACT WHEN GUESTS ARE ARRIVING/ LEAVING THE VENUE.

Note: This is not an all-inclusive list. Additional duties may be assigned.

• Ensures the highest professionalism and service.

• Ability to use company booking systems, collect information and understand restaurant booking principles.

• Contact guests via telephone, email and booking platform in a courteous manner.

• Ensures great communication between departments in the venue, working together with the reception team.

• Adheres to company standards of service quality, preparation, and presentation.

• Ensures guests are served in a timely manner.

• Ensures readiness and makes priorities in case of last minute changes to reservations.

• Adheres to all health, sanitation and food safety rules and regulations.

• Ensures that all potential and real hazards are reported and reduced immediately.

• Ensures that employees work in a safe manner that does not harm or injure self or others.

• Anticipates possible and probable hazards and conditions and either corrects them or takes action to prevent them from happening.

• Keeps the highest standards of personal hygiene, dress, appropriate uniform, appearance, and conduct.

• Sets up for service by ensuring everything is set up for forecasted covers, special functions and all reservations.

• To carry out any other duties as directed by seniors.

• To study and memorize NZR Group guidelines, Employee handbook and Food guides.

• To ensure that your service in the restaurant is the standard that the NZR Group has set.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Actively participate in assisting to achieve departmental goals and objectives and carry out assigned work by Managers and Supervisors.

• Actively engage in your own personal development to benefit the business and improve your personal skills – reviews, annual appraisals, attending training and development courses.

• Actively participate in weekly/monthly meetings that you are required to attend.

• Actively participate in addressing complaints and resolving problems.

GENERAL DUTIES:

• Maintains own working area, materials and company property clean, tidy and in good shape; reports defective materials and equipment to management.

• Attend any meeting or training session as required by Management.

• Maintains a safe and hygienic work environment.

• Is conversant and complies with:

1. The company fire and health and safety procedures

2. The company security procedures

3. The property facilities

4. Licensing regulations

5. Operation standards and departmental procedures

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

• Walk and stand.

• Bend forward.

• Lift and/or move up to 15 lbs, sometimes over shoulder.

KNOWLEDGE, PERSONAL SKILLS & PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• 1 years’ Reception/Host experience in hospitality.

• Excellent command of English language (Written and spoken).

• Ability to communicate with customers and peers with a friendly and positive attitude.

• Self-motivated, continuously seeking to succeed and progress in career within the company.

• Computer literate.

• Extremely flexible and committed.

• Lively, enthusiastic and confident.

• Ability to handle difficult situations successfully.

• Good organizational skills.
