Optimal Hospice is seeking a compassionate and experienced Hospice Chaplain to join our interdisciplinary team. The Hospice Chaplain will play a vital role in providing spiritual care and support to our patients and their families during their end-of-life journey. The Chaplain is an important part of the hospice team.

Full Job Description

The Hospice Chaplain is responsible for the provision of spiritual care services to patients and families/caregivers of our organization either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spiritual Assessment: Conduct comprehensive spiritual assessments to understand the unique spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Pastoral Care: Provide compassionate pastoral care, counseling, and spiritual support to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Emotional Support: Offer empathetic listening and emotional support to individuals facing terminal illness, grief, and loss.
  • Facilitate Spiritual Practices: Facilitate religious rituals, ceremonies, and spiritual practices based on the beliefs and preferences of patients and families.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including nurses, social workers, and physicians, to develop holistic care plans that address the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of patients.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and spiritual support during times of acute medical crises or emotional distress.
  • Education and Training: Offer education and training to staff members on topics related to spirituality, cultural sensitivity, and end-of-life care.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of spiritual assessments, interventions, and patient interactions in accordance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

Position Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv, or equivalent theological degree) - Preferred
  • Experience working with death and dying, individuals/family/caregiver.
  • Ability to work as a member of the interdisciplinary group.
  • Comfort in an interfaith setting.
  • Ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
  • Ability to network with community clergy and congregations.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy of care.
  • Hospice/ experience preferred.
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state or organization requirements and is in good working order.

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $58,000-66,000

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

  • Master's (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Chaplain: 1 year
  • Medical Chaplain: 1 year (Preferred)

Work Location:

  • Multiple locations (South Denver Metro area)
