DESCRIPTIONS:
The School Counselor will provide a comprehensive counseling program for K-8 students; consult with teachers, families, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provide support to other educational programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate with an endorsement in School Counseling
- Washington State Patrol and Criminal Justice fingerprint/background clearance
- Washington State Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Release
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implement, evaluate, and maintain a comprehensive counseling program
- Implement, evaluate, and maintain a K-8 guidance curriculum through the delivery of classroom units and infusion in content areas
- Counsel individuals and small groups of children toward social, emotional, and academic growth
- Participate in, coordinate, and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program
- Develop legally compliant and appropriate 504's to meet the evaluated needs of assigned students
- Attend IEP meetings if needed
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences when requested
- Implement and manage the district's truancy board
- Implement and maintain the Career Guidance Washington for Career and College Readiness program
- Implement and maintain the College Bound Scholarship program
- Implement and maintain CPS trainings and referrals
- Serve as the coordinator for McKinney-Vento, Foster Care, Attendance Team, and CARE Team
- Facilitate and participate in the intervention team process
- Develop and maintain interpersonal relations with students, staff, and community
- Refer children and their parents to special programs, specialists, and outside agencies
- Provide school orientation to new students
- Plan for and assists students in grade level transition and special programs transition
- Provide consultation services for staff and parents with regards to students' school adjustment and performance
- Work together and consult with teachers and administrators concerning the educational development of students
- Assist with minor discipline referrals when deemed necessary and appropriate
- Class and community presentations in areas as study skills, goal setting, career awareness and the world of work, substance abuse education, parenting, school-to-work, and multicultural/diversity awareness
- Facilitate parenting classes in order to enhance understanding about adult-child relationships and responsibilities
- Initiate and maintain adequate records in meeting the responsibilities of the position
- Willingness to benefit from evaluation programs and professional development
- Assume responsibility for and maintain a clean, functional, and safe school facility
- Follow board and district policies and stay current with updates and changes
- Protect the interest of the district with respect to all assets and liabilities
- Know and observe safety procedures, maintain safe working conditions, and comply with safety rules and regulations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
