Reports to: Building Principal
Summary: Provides proactive leadership that engages all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to help students achieve success in school. Their guidance aligns and works with the district's mission to support the academic achievement of all students. The counselor is responsible for academic and career counseling, student planning and course selection, evaluation of student transcripts, and ensuring that students have fulfilled the necessary requirements for graduation in accordance with Castle Rock School District. In addition to providing counseling and support to students in crisis.
Responsibilities: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Assist students with class selection
- Evaluate student transcripts ensuring that the number of hours required for a subject has been filled and any pre-requisites have been satisfied.
- Guide students and parents in the use of test results for educational and career planning
- Assist in the evaluation of test results and student grades to determine if the educational goals have been achieved
- Provide information on college and career testing to facilitate registration
- Counsel group or individual students through the development of education and/or career planning services as needed
- Counsel small groups and work with individual students with problems and/or refer to appropriate community resources
- Assist with coordinating college fairs, mentoring programs, community service hours and programs related to career opportunities expressed by the students
- Work cooperatively with parents and students' teachers to resolve any concerns relative their student
- Ensure that class schedules are complete
- Monitor class credits and grades for all students to ensure they stay on track for graduation
- Ensure timely communication of credit status with parents and students
- Ensure all students have a High School, and beyond, plan of educational development
- Responsive Services: designed to meet students' immediate needs and concerns, including individual counseling, small-group settings, and or crisis response
- Utilize data to determine effectiveness of the school counseling program and counseling interventions to guide future actions and improve future results for all students
- Demonstrated skill and experience supporting and contributing to the success of full continuum of special need students;
- Demonstrated skill and experience working with diverse populations, including, but not limited to minorities, immigrants, low-income and homeless, non-English speaking, etc.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, judgment, discretion, problem-solving skills, and initiative; culturally relevant effective human relation skills, including diplomacy, tact, people management skills, humor and flexibility;
- Skills in oral and written communication; team building; problem-solving; time management; program design; evaluating and assessing the effectiveness of services;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality; work effectively under pressure and remain flexible;
- Ability to monitor and reflect on own job performance, encourage feedback from school teams and administrators; participate in ongoing training to enhance professional skills; continue professional study and activities, stay current on issues;
- Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable board policies and district and legal requirements;
- Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
Salary: $54,221 - 102,194

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises
Qualifications:
- Must hold a current Washington State teaching certificate with ESA endorsement in Counseling
- Ability to operate within a wide range of student personalities and backgrounds
- Education in various models of teaching, best counseling practices and regulations
- Proficiency with computers
- Experience with secondary level education related counseling preferred
- Fingerprint clearance by Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation
- Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed
Conditions of Employment:
Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and CREA bargaining agreement salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by credits and experience.
The successful candidates for this position must be fingerprinted at their own expense. Employment is contingent upon clearance by Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
This position is also available to current teaching staff, appropriately licensed/endorsed, who would request a transfer.
