Under the direction of the Home Based Manager, the Home Based EducatorCoach (HBEC) supports Home Based Services throughout Chicago and surrounding suburbs by implementing a research-based curriculum and coordinated coaching strategies; ensuring the review and analysis of education, disabilities, and mental health data to inform planning; and supporting the referral and inclusion of children with suspected and diagnosed disabilities. This role is ideal for someone who has respect for children and families with diverse values and cultures and is passionate about supporting home-visiting staff with their curriculum and instruction by providing constructive feedback, collaborating with colleagues, analyzing data, and ensuring all student learning and family outcomes and are successfully met through high-quality engagement.
This position is headquartered at Easterseals Chicago Location at 1939 W 13th Street, Chicago, IL 60608.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assess all home visitors staff using a variety of tools, including staff self-reflections, to identify strengths, areas of needed support, and staff that would benefit most from intensive coaching.
  • Provide opportunities for intensive coaching to identified Home Based Educators, including observation opportunities, feedback and modeling of effective teacher practices directly related to program performance goals.
  • Align coaching with program's school readiness goals, curricula, and other approaches to professional development.
  • Use assessment data to drive coaching strategies aligned with program performance goals.
  • Facilitate lesson-planning meetings to support job-embedded professional learning on an individualized level, with Home Based Educator or team.
  • Work with Home Based Educators to review and analyze child outcome data, home visits, and screenings to inform individual child and program planning.
  • Assist Home Based Educators in modifying curriculum and individualizing lesson plans for children with disabilities based on IFSP goals.
  • Build trusting relationships with families, facilitate parent-child interactions, and support parents in their role as their child's first and primary teacher.
  • Integrate all Early Head Start components during home visits (early childhood development, disabilities/inclusion, mental health/social emotional, health, nutrition, and dental health, parent/family engagement and social services).
  • Utilize Home Based child/family curriculum and online system (ongoing assessment tool).
  • Provide intensive coaching to identified HBE, resulting in improvements in observation scores, and child outcomes.
  • Provide coaching and modeling to HBE on effective home visits, socializations, and parent-child activities.
  • Assist HBE with completing developmental and social-emotional screenings, observations, and assessment checkpoints within designated time frames as assigned.
  • Accompany and support families at IFSP/IEP meetings and through the process of enrolling their child in services; support parents in advocating for their goals for their child.
  • Utilize child outcome data to guide lesson planning and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Utilize IFSP/IEP to support children with disabilities.
  • Work with parents to ensure that enrolled children maintain remain up-to-date on well-child visits, physicals, immunizations, EPSDT-required screenings, vision and hearing, heights and weights, and dental exams; follow up with families and doctors' offices as needed.
  • Work with Social Emotional Specialist/Consultant and Nutritionist to identify specific children/parents needing social emotional and/or nutritional supports and assist with follow up with families.
  • Recruit parents to participate in program-level Parent Committees and agency-wide Policy Council.
  • Provide support to HBE in planning and coordinating 22 group socializations over the course of the program year.
  • Collaborate with parents, Head Start centers, and other community preschool programs to transition children to Head Start or other preschool programs at age 3.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records in the child/family data base system.
  • Maintain complete and accurate child/family binders.
  • Utilize child/data base system tracking, implement tracking to ensure required timelines are met.
  • Submit all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner, attend all required meetings, and maintain Outlook calendar.
  • Participate in Enrollment/Recruitment Campaign, annual self-assessment, community assessment, and PIR.
  • Develop linkages with community organizations.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Program Goals and School Readiness Goals and promote a culture of safety.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in ECE or child development with 6 credit hours in infant toddler coursework

Or
  • Degree in social work, human services, or a related field with 6 credit hours in infant toddler coursework plus a minimum of 1-year experience in early childhood education or social services

Or
  • Home Based CDA, Infant Toddler CDA, or Gateways Infant Toddler Credential Level 2 plus a minimum of 1-3 years experience in social services or early childhood education

Experience Required:
  • 1 year home visiting experience preferred
  • Bilingual ability (English/Spanish or English/Arabic) may be preferred or required for some positions
  • Certified observer within 12 months of hire, including annual renewal
  • Working with Teaching Strategies Gold and Child Plus online systems is a plus.

  • Valid driver's license.
