Summary
Follows laboratory standards for grossing tissue specimen, processing, and preparation of pathology slides.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Embeds, cuts, stains histologic sections from surgical tissues for microscope examination by a Pathologist
- Maintains positive identification of all specimens throughout the process cycle.
- Prepares gross surgical specimens.
- Prepares a variety of special stains and solutions and uses them in the differential staining of tissue cell structures using appropriate procedures.
- Performs and documents all necessary quality control procedures to insure the reliability of all results.
- Counts and records workload and other statistics.
- Performs and documents all necessary instrument checks and preventative/ routine maintenance.
- Maintains current knowledge of the field by attendance at meetings, seminars and lectures and by keeping abreast of current literature pertinent to the field.
- Attends all mandatory in-service presentations including safety, right-to-know and hazardous substance handling.
- Respects patient confidentiality both at work and outside of the working environment..
Certificates and Licenses
Clinical laboratory technologist/technician or Histology Technician license in NYS ismandatory
Education
Associate's or Bachelor's degree from 2 or 4 year college or university preferred with a science emphasis

Pay: $28.00 - $39.00 per hour
