Anne Arundel Urology is seeking an experienced Histology Laboratory Technician to work in our and Pathology and PCR Lab located in Annapolis, MD. We are a urology office that processes tissue and urine samples. The Tech's primary responsibility will be processing anatomic path, however this role will be cross-trained in our PCR lab. Experience in PCR is a plus! This is a full time position that will work 5 days per week, including Saturdays.
Description
Anatomic Path Lab Technician performs pre-analytical lab tasks including but not limited to: Receiving, accessioning and grossing of histology and cytology specimens. Special preparation of cytology samples, FISH specimens and tissue specimens. Prepare sections of human tissue for examination. Experience with microtomy and embedding tissue required. Prepare slide of specimens to enhance visibility under microscope. Study slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. All specimens are prepped for doctor review.
Histology Technician performs lab tasks including but not limited to: Receive, distribute, and log specimens into the LIS. Assign accession numbers and prepare, cut, and gross specimens for Pathologist. Plate specimens in microtiter plates and run on Quant Studio 5. Interpret curves captured on Quant Studio 5. Populate the spreadsheet with findings. Send out reports.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties as assigned.
- Experience in microtomy/cutting tissue required.
- Experience in embedding tissue required.
- Receiving, accessioning, and grossing of specimens.
- Experience in PCR, Quant Studio 5 and KingFisher a plus!
- Responsible for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Equipment maintenance including cleaning.
- Prepare plates and controls for performing tests.
- Follow safety procedures.
- Inventory, unloading and labeling of all supplies.
- Understand and follow all laboratory accreditation standards, OSHA, EPA, and CLIA.
- Keep accurate records including but not limited to: equipment preventive maintenance and repair, QA and QC records, temperature and equipment charts, safety procedures, exposure and waste management.
- Keep the lab clean and neatly organized.
- Frequently required to assist with unpacking boxes and supplies and moving boxes into storage as needed.

Education/Experience:
- An earned bachelor’s degree in a physical science.
- One year experience with a high-complexity laboratory.
- Experience with microtomy and embedding tissue required.
- PCR experience is a plus!
