By joining the Traffic, Engineering and Permits Section in Boone County as a Highway Traffic Technician Superintendent, you will provide supervision and coordinate the work of traffic signal, lighting installation and repair crew, and perform other duties as assigned in the installation and repair of traffic signals, flashing beacons, and roadway/navigational lighting.
Holders of this Job Title will complete tasks such as:
  • Oversee the maintenance and installation of signal and roadway lighting systems.
  • Supervise signal technicians.
  • Oversee the work of contractors.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Advance techniques in signal and roadway lighting maintenance.
  • Coordination and teamwork.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Should be able to coordinate between various crews, contractors, and utility companies to accomplish goals.
  • Should possess personal skills that will produce a team oriented environment while ensuring work goals are met.
  • Should be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and ensure all are met by contractors and state crews.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have eight years of experience in electrical or electronic installation or electrical or electronics maintenance work.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical training in electricity, electronics or a related field will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must possess certification in International Municipal Signal Association Level II training. https://www.imsasafety.org/. Must possess certification in NFPA 70E Training for Qualified Employees for Low and High Voltage scenarios (NFPS.org). Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions
Incumbents with this job typically perform their work at various locations throughout the district or at a Highway Traffic facility. Must be able to work extended hours and during inclement weather, when necessary.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
