Summary The High Voltage-Safety Operations Supervisor supervises, and coordinates training activities related to the installation, maintenance, supply, and repair of high-voltage electric power, related systems for transit vehicles, and related infrastructure.

Ensures High Voltage electricity is managed and distributed in a clean, safe, and environmentally conscientious manner. Major Duties and Responsibilities Tests, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and operates High Voltage electrical systems, including, but not limited to, transformers, switching stations, underground switches and equipment, distribution lines, circuit breakers, relays, substations, control panels, and building systems. Analyzes and solves problems with various high-voltage electrical controls and systems, electromechanical repairs, transformers, switches, and circuit breakers.

Interprets schematics, prints, and oral instructions for high-voltage electrical applications. Uses testing equipment, including but not limited to DMMs, amp meters, Megger meters, High Voltage Tester, and an array of tools and diagnostic equipment. Performs preventative maintenance following methods and procedures to eliminate operating problems and improve outcomes.

Provides technical guidance and training as needed and may guide apprentices and high/low voltage electricians. Ensures High Voltage electrical systems are safe and operating efficiently. Follows all protocols, and complies with safety procedures, statutory regulations, and federal and state codes.

Provides technical guidance and training for other trade crafts. Consult with other supervisors and departments to coordinate all high-voltage activities as required. Carry out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Performs other related duties as required. As a part of your responsibility to support the CATS Safety Culture, report safety concerns and issues through the various methods established by CATS as outlined in the ASP. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical manuals, procedures, diagrams, schedules, and governmental regulations.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Must possess a class A Commercial Vehicle Driver's License (CDL) Inspect and report on the quality of maintenance work. Work independently with limited supervision Work odd and unusual hours as assigned.

Preferred Qualification License/Registration/Certification Master Electrician License Minimum Qualifications Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) High school diploma Five (5) years of experience with increasing responsibility in High Voltage system operation and maintenance Training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, knowledge of applicable state and/or Federal policies, laws, and regulations affecting a full-service High Voltage Department activity. Conditions of Employment The City's Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate's written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports. Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination.
