Position Title:Teacher/Coordinator - Nursing Assistant Training Program
Department: Career & Technical Education Department

Job Summary: Teachers will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
Essential Functions: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks, duties, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents in this class.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Adhere to all statutes, rules and regulations set forth by the Arizona State Board of Nursing for the Nursing Assistant Training Program.
  • Maintain, promulgate and adhere to all written policies and procedures consistent with the standards set forth by the Arizona State Board of Nursing for the Nursing Assistant Training Programs.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Nursing Assistant Training Program and any instructors or health care professionals who assist in providing instruction.
  • Ensure that any instructors who may teach in the Nursing Assistant Training Program meet Arizona State Board of Nursing qualifications including the holding of a current, registered nurse license that is active and in good standing; and possess one of the following: Credit for a course on teaching adults, one year of experience teaching adults, OR One year of experience supervising Nursing Assistants.
  • Require that written policies about the Nursing Assistant Training Program are provided to students on or before the first day of the program.
  • Strive to implement, through instruction and example, the districts' philosophy of education.
  • Instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated and which accomplish course goals, lesson objectives, prepared outlines, units of instruction and activities and reading assignments.
  • Guide the learning process, through the use of required and established clear objectives, toward the achievement of district curriculum goals using current and relevant educational materials.
  • physically present and create a positive and nurturing class environment that is developmentally appropriate and conducive to learning.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Integrate a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Assist the administration in the development and implementation of rules and/or policies governing student conduct.
  • Set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, and uphold district wide discipline policies.
  • Assess student accomplishments on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required.
  • Enforce a grading policy that meets or exceeds the Arizona State Board of Nursing requirements for Nursing Assistant Training Programs.
  • Ensure that student health requirements are met, current and in order.
  • Require satisfactory performance of all critical knowledge and skills and ensure that students are competent in these skills before performing any client care activities.
  • Supervise students who provide client care consistent with the Arizona State Board of Nursing requirements for Nursing Assistant Training Programs.
  • Provide or have access to instructional resources in functional condition and educational materials related to the level of the curriculum to implement the Nursing Assistant Training Program.
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of all equipment and supplies needed for the program.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and their retention, required by law, district policy, administrative and Arizona State Board of Nursing regulations.
  • Submit all appropriate documentation to the State Board including records, reports, documentation as required by the Nursing Assistant Training Program standards.
  • Provide an ongoing evaluation of the Nursing Assistant Training Program and immediately correct any reported or noted deficiencies.
  • Seek the assistance of district specialists when learning disabilities are suspected.
  • Make provision to be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the regular instructional day when such encounters are required or requested under reasonable terms.
  • When assigned a teacher assistant, student teacher, or volunteer, plans and supervises assignments and activities for that person or persons.
  • Strive to maintain and improve currency in the field and professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Initiate the renewal of Nursing Assistant Training Program approval in sufficient time prior to its expiration and prepares and submits the appropriate application materials as set forth in the Arizona State Board of Nursing standards.
  • Make the Nursing Assistant Training Program available to the Arizona State Board of Nursing shall they require an on-site unannounced evaluation of the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the Arizona State Board of Nursing statutes, rules and standards related to nursing education and the Nursing Assistant Training Program and nurse assistant certification.
  • Knowledge of appropriate teaching strategies and methods in the classroom, laboratory and in the clinical setting.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a current teaching certificate issued by the Arizona State Department of Education. Must hold a current Registered Nurse License that is active and in good standing. Possess at least two years of nursing experience at least one year of which is in the provision of long-term care facility services.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver's license.
  • May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions
