Job Purpose:

The principal position is a critical member of the leadership team and the chief academic leader of the school responsible for developing, articulating, and implementing the academic vision that will inspire faculty, students, and families.
Job Responsibilities:
- Implement the Goals and Criteria and the philosophy of Sacred Heart education.
- Provide leadership and promote an environment conducive to spiritual, academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being and growth among and between students and school employees.
- Define the educational goals of the school, establish academic policies, and design and track faculty and student benchmarks to measure institutional success.
- Provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional programs.
- Lead the selection, retention, evaluation, reassignment, and promotion of the academic team ensuring they meet the academic needs while also representing the ethnic culture of the school.
- Evaluate faculty and other designated staff annually using the Danielson or other Josephinum approved model(s) of evaluation.
- Ensure the academic team adheres to and is held accountable for consistent application of the academic policies and curriculum standards.
- Oversee the professional development of the academic team.
- Stay current, evaluate, and, when applicable, implement best practices related to academic goals and curriculum design.
- Establish and enforce, with the Dean of Students, guidelines, expectations, and consequences for student behavior.
- Lead and/or participate in discipline and problem resolution meetings with students, faculty, academic staff, and/or parents/guardians.
- Oversee the Student Services program which ensures academic, social, and emotional wellness support to succeed with the curriculum and establishes career planning and college readiness.
- Work with community and government agencies on issues that relate to the school’s and/or students’ welfare in the school or in the community.
- Engage with parents/guardians to build community and develop relationships that foster an education partnership including, but not limited to, attending, and participating in parent meetings, councils, and/or support groups.
- Meet with students to listen to concerns, encourage, guide, and/or assist them as needed.
- Provide input on marketing strategies, marketing campaigns, and annual communications plan to all school constituents.
- Manage Title funded programs.
- Identify and complete all required compliance reports.
- Work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer to adhere to human resources protocol for the school.
- Participate in the review and updating of security and school emergency plans.
- Oversee Sacred Heart Committee on Goals (SHCOG) and other accreditation processes.
- Participate in Board Meetings either in person or by compiling data/reports.
- Contribute to the overall culture of the community by attending activities outside of school hours such as sporting events/games, theater performances, and award presentations.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Education/Skills/Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's degree in education, administration or equivalent.
- Illinois State (Type 75) Certification/License in Administration.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience, preferably in Catholic Schools.
- Actively practices the Catholic faith.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, student body, board, alumni, and community.
- Strong managerial and team building skills and a demonstrated ability to motivate and empower direct and indirect reports to achieve Academy priorities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters.
- Ability to be flexible to manage multiple tasks, especially during the school day.
- Embrace and manage change, ambiguity, and vagueness as we create the future of Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart.
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning.
- Strong, professional, and courteous communication skills verbal and written.
- Demonstrated experience exercising good judgment and goal accomplishment.
- Proven expertise in planning and executing programs for High School students.
- Be comfortable and willing to serve as a spokesperson for Josephinum.
