Job description

This position is working with small groups of students preparing them for Physics MCAS. The time commiment is in person, 2 one hour sessions per week (after school) along with an hour of prep each week (3 hours total)
The MCAS Tutor will provide academic assistance for recommended students throughout the district. The instruction in this program was designed to meet the individual needs of each student identified to participate in the program. The MCAS Tutor is also responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all students within their teaching assignment, and is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustee's policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Principal of the school or his/her designee.

POSITION:MCAS TUTOR
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, in the area of tutoring preferred. Experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Valid Preliminary, Initial or Professional Teaching License recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferred.
  • Strong content knowledge in either Math, Literacy and/or Physics (High School)
  • Experience in remediation and intervention preferred.
  • Experience using technology in the classroom preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to relate well to others.

REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISION: None
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, MCAS Tutor will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks they deem appropriate.
  1. Plans standards based instruction that is appropriate and challenging;
  2. Delivers effective instruction in small groups (5-10 students)
  3. Ensures that all instruction and content delivered within the program is secular, neutral and non-ideological;
  4. Provides students with a clear understanding of expectations;
  5. Tutors specializing in Reading and Math must be knowledgeable of the current frameworks. (Physics at the High School level)
  6. Utilizes technology in the classroom and in small groups
  7. Able to provide differentiated instruction utilizing manipulatives and a hands on approach;
  8. Submits Action Plans weekly to the Principal;
  9. Administers pre and post assessments and tracks student progress;
  10. Communicates regularly with classroom teachers, and parents/guardians as needed;
  11. Ensures confidentiality of student information and does not disclose to the public the identity of any student information without the written permission of the parent or guardian;
  12. Uses restorative strategies with students and intervenes appropriately to behavioral challenges
  13. Submits timesheets to Principal on a weekly basis;

  10. Maintains and respects strict confidentiality of any sensitive information related to Atlantis Charter School, its faculty, staff and students.

EVALUATION
Tutors will be evaluated annually on their performance throughout the school year by the Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Length of position as required per agreement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to walk, sit and stand for long periods. Regularly uses computer keyboard, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Some travel may be required.
