Length of Service: 210 days
Salary Range: Established by Board of Education
The basic functions of this position are:
- Provide leadership for the staff of the High School in maintaining and aiding student growth
- Supervise, coordinate, evaluate, and administer the high school program
- Attend conferences, workshops, and classes to assure growth in the field of education
- Liaison person between the Superintendent and the high school

Major Responsibility No. 1: 9-12 Curriculum
Key Duties:
- Provide leadership in curriculum development in conjunction with the Curriculum Director
- Implement and supervise curriculum
- Evaluate data to guide instructional decisions
- Keep informed of current curriculum practices and trends
- Develop and implement in-service and pre-service programs
- Lead School Improvement activities
- Collaborate with Curriculum Director and leadership teams to determine curriculum changes and adjustments
Major Responsibility No. 2: Staff Supervision and Evaluation
Key Duties:
- Participate in the recruitment, interview and selection process of staff, and when necessary, staff dismissal
- Informally and formally evaluate staff and make recommendations to the Superintendent and report to the Board of Education as directed
- Supervise staff daily
- Counsel personnel
Major Responsibility No. 3: Discipline
Key Duties:
- Administer student discipline
- Maintain student discipline records
- Make recommendations for changes and additions to the student handbook
- Coordinate, where possible, discipline problem solutions with teachers
- Meet with students and parents regarding discipline behaviors
- Recommend student expulsion to the Board of Education
- Coordinate with law enforcement resources when the safety and welfare of the students, teachers and/or other school employees are threatened
Major Responsibility No. 4: Community and Public Relations
Key Duties:
- Prepare and disseminate information to parents
- Meet with parents and community groups
- Keep informed of community activities
- Provide newsworthy school information on a timely basis to the superintendent, or, as directed, to the Media
Major Responsibility No. 5: Activities
Key Duties:
- Arrange and supervise all special activities
- Approve all field trips
Major Responsibility No. 6: Student Services/Welfare
Key Duties:
- Supervise students during lunch period
- Attend to medical problems as needed
- Maintain student records
- Acts on behalf of the Office of the Principal and/or the Board in any legal matter concerning students
Major Responsibility No. 7: Special Education Program
Key Duties:
- Coordinate special education programs in the high school
- Attend Special Education Meetings as needed and invited
- Collaborate with the special education administrator as needed
Major Responsibility No. 8: High School Athletics
Key Duties:
- Attend and/or be responsible for appointing a representative at all conference and county meetings
- Assist in the development of conference rules and regulations
- Ensure student, staff and spectator adherence to all IHSA rules
Major Responsibility No. 9: Scheduling of Facilities
Key Duties:
- Schedule yearly events e.g. formal dances, concerts, plays, academic awards, graduation, open house, and Freshman orientation
- Provide supervision of events
Major Responsibility No. 10: Course and Student Scheduling
Key Duties:
- Assume final responsibility for developing the master schedule for the high school
- Schedule all room assignments to meet the high school schedule
- Keep the Superintendent and Curriculum Director informed of the master schedule
- Approve all student schedule changes in collaboration with Guidance Counselor
- Substitute in class on emergency basis
Major Responsibility No. 11: Capital Area Career Center (CACC)
Key Duties:
- Coordinate yearly selection process of CACC students
- Provide CACC bus supervision as needed
Major Responsibility No. 12: Building Maintenance
Key Duties:
- Monitor custodians in day-to-day cleaning of building
- Communicate any issues with building plant or custodians to Maintenance Director
- Prepare reports on desired summer maintenance
- Work closely with Maintenance Director in order to keep building clean and operationally sound.
Major Responsibility No. 13: Summer School
Key Duties:
- Assist in the development of the summer school program
- Assist in the implementation of the summer school program
