Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College Health & Wellness Center, located in Bronxville New York, is currently seeking a Nurse Practitioner to fill this temporary appointment resulting from an employee's medical leave. The position is currently Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., part-time would be considered. There are no weekends, nights or on-call for this position. The duration of the appointment will be up to six months, with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent placement.
The Health & Wellness Center functions as a primary health care office for 1600 residential and commuter, undergraduate and graduate students. The office works on an appointment based system, giving the clinician time to assess, diagnosis and treat the patient, as well as educate the patient on measures of prevention and self-care. The Health & Wellness Center is an integrated model of care, with both medical and mental health clinicians working collaboratively to service the students of Sarah Lawrence College.
The Nurse Practitioner is an individual who assesses and responds to the medical needs of the Sarah Lawrence College student population, providing a range of health services.
Essential Duties Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is expected to:
- Provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury using the process described in the Standardized Procedures and other licensing standards.
- Work within the physician collaborative agreement.
- Order and dispense medications and vaccines from the SLC Health & Wellness formulary.
- Document patient care in EMR and update EMR to reflect follow up care.
- Provide emergency response as per Health & Wellness Center policy.
- Consult with collaborative physician; private health care providers; County and/or State Department of Health, to manage student health care problems.
- Promote and participate in Health & Wellness Center outreach events.
- Work with and direct care of staff Registered Nurses.
- Follow Policy and Procedure Manual of Sarah Lawrence College Health & Wellness Center.
Required Qualifications
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
-Proficient in interview and assessment skills.
-Document services provided and pertinent information in medical records appropriately.
-Participate as an active member of the Health Team.
-Collaborate with the professional staff and collaborating physician.
-Communicate effectively with students, students' families, faculty, staff and senior administration.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
-Scope of practice guidelines for a Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of New York
-Principles, Theories and Practice of Nursing.
-OSHA guidelines
MINIMAL QUAILFICATIONS:
Education: Graduate of a New York State Registered Nurse Practitioner Program/Masters Degree Program
Completed a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours or the equivalent and has been instructed in the New York State and federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3 hour course).
Experience: 3 years recent experience, urgent care preferred.
LICENSE:
Current and valid New York State Registered Nurse license
Current certification by New York State Department of Education as a Nurse Practitioner
Current and valid CPR certification
