Job description

The SRAE Lead Facilitator will work with the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program serving youth between the ages of 10-13 and their parents or caregivers. The goal of SRAE is to provide messages to youth that promote the health behavior of avoiding non-marital sexual activity with a focus on the future health, psychological well-being, and economic success of youth. Further, address the social, psychological, and health gains to be realized by refraining from non-marital sexual activity and engaging in healthy relationships.
The SRAE Lead Facilitator will deliver evidenced-based programming with fidelity to youth in a variety of settings including Middle Schools, afterschool programs and onsite and community-based organizations during specific school periods assign by school leadership and times when youth are not in school. The SRAE Lead Facilitator will additionally engage program participants in activities designed to provide career exploration activities and arrange for trips to local cultural events. The Health Educator will provide parent education workshops with the goal of improving parent-child communication to support the development of positive health behaviors among youth including avoiding sexual activity.
Responsibilities of Duties:
The SRAE Lead Facilitator duties and responsibilities include:

  • Deliver evidence-based programming with fidelity to youth and parents in a variety of community-based settings
  • Provide youth development programming including career exploration and service learning activities
  • Coordinate and engage SRAE program participants in annual local cultural events
  • Conduct community outreach and education
  • Serve as an active member of community coalitions; participate in local health fairs and community events
  • Maintain program participant records and submit required data for monthly, quarterly, and annual education reports
  • Represent BMS Family Health & Wellness Centers and the SRAE program at local community events and coalitions

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day within different middle schools, community organization, beacons and after school programs although some out-of-the-area.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education
1. Bachelor's degree preferred in health education or health related field
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• Ability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth and parents in a variety of settings on various health topics including sexual risk avoidance
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
• Bi-lingual, English/ Spanish, speaking skills are a plus but not required
• Strong interpersonal skills; must be a team player who works cooperatively and effectively with other SRAE Program staff, schools and community-based partners that serve youth and families
• Ability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth and parents in a variety of settings on various health topics including sexual risk avoidance
• Respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstance; understands and applies principles of cultural competence
• Must be able to handle multiple assignments and take initiative to plan and complete projects effectively
• Strong presentation and organizational skills
