An Early Head Start program is seeking a Health Specialist Registered Nurse.
About the Opportunity:
- Schedule: M-F
- Hours: 8:30am - 2:30pm (can work until 4:30pm if extra hours needed)
- Setting: School / Early Head Start Program
- Reports to: Senior Administrative Director of FCP/Head Start Director (Dr. Reva)

Responsibilities:
- Assist families in accessing continuous and accessible healthcare services, providing guidance on child and family health concerns, and offering referrals as needed.
- Review child physicals upon enrollment, ensure immunization records are current, and oversee annual physical examinations.
- Implement a monitoring system across all sites to address the healthcare needs of children, including those with special requirements.
- Develop and implement follow-up plans for identified health issues and maintain a tracking list for children with chronic conditions.
- Conduct sensory screenings within the mandated timeframe for Head Start programs.
- Regularly review medication administration procedures and ensure compliance with relevant protocols.
- Collaborate with parents and program staff to devise individual healthcare plans for children with special needs.
- Maintain up-to-date health care plans for all sites in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Provide training on emergency medication procedures and educate staff on caring for children with chronic health conditions.
- Assist in organizing Health Services Advisory Committee (HSAC) meetings and collaborate with health professionals to ensure adequate resources for families.
- Monitor children's preventive and primary healthcare schedules and provide necessary data for reporting purposes.
- Deliver staff training and professional development sessions, including onsite coaching and mentoring.
- Manage classroom first aid kits and establish an inventory system for monitoring supplies.
- Coordinate and conduct health education and safety workshops for families and staff.
- Review and update written health and nutrition policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
Qualifications:
- Current licensure in New York State as a Registered Nurse.
- Open to new graduates
- Knowledge of early childhood development and health.
- Familiarity with Head Start Program Performance Standards and relevant regulatory agencies (e.g., ACS, ACF, UPK, DOHMH).
Desired Skills:
- 2 years of direct experience in the healthcare field.
- Strong interpersonal and computer skills, with effective oral and written communication abilities.
- Ability to adapt to diverse cultural backgrounds within the service area.
- Bilingual Bengali/Urdu/Spanish - they have translators.
