SalaryUnder the general direction and supervision of the Quality Supervisor A, this position receives incoming Health Records, performs health record routing, scanning and filing, processes release of information requests and serves as the Centers Records Custodian.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience
One-year recent experience in medical records. Prior experience with medical terminology or as Certified Nurse Aide may substitute for experience. Cultural competence in working with diverse populations.
Essential Functions:
- Report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Remain at work for their entire work schedule.
- Receives, routes, tracks, files releases, requests, processes and reports on medical and dental Health Records according to protocol.
- Receives, tracks and reports on after-hours calls.
- Receives, processes and updates changes in patient’s addresses.
- Implements and keeps current with record retention polices.
- Implements Health Records retention policies and procedures.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
- Complies with center’s policies and procedures.
- Utilizes specialized office and medical equipment according to procedure.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Recent computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Knowledge of common office equipment (copier, fax, printer, etc.).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
Ability to work under pressure.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Knowledge of HIPAA.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Position is based in the City of Fairbanks; however, position responsibilities may require travel both within the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) and Denali Borough. Use of personal vehicle is required for travel; therefore, a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required. Position may require working occasional evenings and weekends.
