About the Team

The Health Information Specialist is responsible for accurately maintaining the functions of the Clinical Records Department to include processing intakes and discharges, chart maintenance, assisting clients with Release of Information forms, and general office duties. Monitors and assists in the management of the record retention, storage and disposal of health information and adheres to strict confidentiality, security and standards of ethics pertaining to the use of health care information.


What You’ll Do

  • Assists in managing the Master Patient Index system resulting in accurate accountability of the record and relevant client data to include admission, discharge dates; and demographic, storage and disposal information.
  • Understand and abide by all Corporate Compliance, Health Information Management (HIM), Information Technology and other Company policies and the Code of Conduct by displaying ethical behavior as it applies to the scope and authority of the job position.
  • Maintains respectful professional relationships with coworkers, the clients we serve, the general public and all individuals we come into contact with as it relates to the duties of the job, regardless of the individual’s race, gender, disability status, color, religion and other classes or situations that would create a bias for disparity and/or discrimination.
  • Assists in managing the record retention, storage and disposal process according to established State regulations and Company policy.
  • Client charts (ECR and paper): Prepares client chart from initial intake and follows up with clinical staff on missing paperwork.
  • Scanning and uploading: Prepares incoming documents for scanning into electronic records.
  • Provides assistance to ROI specialist to ensure timely release of requested records to clients and outside agencies.
  • Understands and abides by all Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, and Security policies and code of conduct by displaying ethical behavior as it applies to the scope and authority of the job. Adheres to the company’s Code of Conduct and Business ethics.

  • Position will be hybrid in office/remote after 6 months
  • Pay range is $19.23 to $24.89 per hour DOE. Position is eligible for up to $6,000 in incentive with the average being $2,300)

What We Need from You

  • High School diploma or GED and two years of specialized experience and/or training in keeping medical records and Protected Health Information in a medical or behavioral health organization.
  • Strong computer skills to include Word and Excel programs.
  • Requires occasional personal transportation to travel from facility to cover for HIM staff during vacations and situations resulting in staff coverage.
  • Ability to navigate efficiently through paper and electronic medical records to find needed information.
  • Ability to apply laws and regulations on the confidentiality of health information (i.e., Privacy Act, Health Information Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Possesses valid Alaska Driver’s License and driving record indicating the absence of: suspension or revocation of license in any state or jurisdiction during the past five years; more than one moving violation during the past year; or accident resulting in personal injury during the past three years for which the operator was cited for violation of motor vehicle code(s).
