The Oregon State Hospital

Oregon Health Authority
is seeking a Health Information Specialist to join the Health Information Team. The Health Information department is responsible for maintaining the medical records for patient care, legal, statistical and billing purposes at the Oregon State Hospital (OSH).
Hybrid Remote Work: Position duties are eligible for an estimated 40% hybrid remote work (2 days per week after trial service period or at managers approval)

Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
This is a full-time, permanent, classified position which is represented by a union.
What you will do!
As a Health Information Specialist, you will transcribe dictation received from physicians and nurse practitioners to document patient care and facilitate delivery of health care services to patients as well as assist with other duties such as release of information.

What we are looking for:
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience related to Health Information.
OR
An Associate's degree in Health Information Technology from an accredited program.
OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Requested Skills
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT).
  • Experience using medical, psychiatric, and legal terminology as well as medical transcription guidelines and practices.
  • Proficient in the proper use grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Professional, diplomatic written and oral communication skills required when serving a variety of customers to answer questions and explain information, policies, and decisions.
  • Ability to understand diverse accents and dictation styles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Oregon Revised Statutes related to disclosure of patient information.
  • Experience with hybrid (paper and electronic) medical records in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Experience operating transcription software.
  • Experience advancing health equity, addressing systemic health disparities, and collaborating with diverse, vulnerable, and underrepresented populations.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Adobe DC.
