Description:
The incumbent reports to the Director of Financial Clearance, who reports to the Associate Chief Financial Officer, who reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The Healthcare Administrator I coordinate and manages all operations of front-end Revenue Cycle activities for the Patient Financial Clearance Department of UI Health. These activities include, but are not limited to; registration, financial clearance and authorization related processes and work queues, revenue reconciliation processes, using initiative, independent judgment and discretion concerning priorities to ensure the best patient experience and financial outcomes for the hospital.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maximize revenues by administering, coordinating, and reviewing the performance related to administrative and business functions across the Financial Clearance department, including pre-registration, authorization management, and other front-end Revenue Cycle delivery processes.
- Assist with the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures that will lead to minimal denials due to pre-authorization and patient registration errors, and routinely evaluate current policies to continually improve operations and maintain compliance with any regulatory entities and insurance companies.
- Foster communication with various stakeholders to create an effective and efficient Patient Financial Clearance department.
- Provide operational and strategic leadership to conduct business workflow mapping, impact analysis, application of actions steps, and other planning to ensure deliverables are met.
- Designs, develops, implements and maintains systems that provide financial, statistical and operational information.
- Oversee department efficiency and monitor subordinates' productivity and quality of work on a consistent basis and develop and implement action plans as needed.
- Meet on a regular basis with the Director of Patient Financial Clearance to review and resolve issues.
- Accomplishes Revenue Cycle human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
- Enhances registrations, authorization and other front-end Revenue Cycle delivery processes by coordinating activities with the applicable clinical and administrative staff and/or third-party support vendors and other supporting systems.
- Directly supervises day to day operations of the Admitting staff.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
1. Any one or any combination, that equals 3 years (36 months) of the following types of preparation--
A. college course work leading to a major in hospital administration, health administration, or business administration, or similar area of study
- Associate Degree (60 semester hours) equals 1 year (12 months)
- 90-semester hours equals 2 years (24 months)
- Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals 3 years (36 months)
OR
B. progressively more responsible experience that provided a knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories, and practices used in hospital administration, health administration, business administration or similar professional experience
2. One year (12 months) of hospital/medical center/Health Care administrative work experience
OR
College course work leading to a Master's Degree in hospital administration, health administration, business administration or similar area of study
