Job Summary:

This position reports to the Director of Athletics. The Head Softball Coach provides overall leadership and management of the women’s NJCAA Division I softball program. The Head Softball Coach’s responsibilities within the department shall include, but not limited to, implementing practice and game plans, skills instruction and player development, recruitment of student-athletes, administering weight and conditioning program, arranging travel, administrative duties in office, fundraising, monitoring academic progress, camps, public relations and community involvement, establishing and maintaining a professional network with area coaches and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree and five years’ experience as a coach or leadership role in a softball program at the college level.
Excellent communication skills. Working knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations. Knowledge of compliance issues concerning the administration of intercollegiate athletics.

The employee is regularly required to stand, pull, stoop, and bend. The employee must regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds and move up to 40 pounds in addition to performing softball skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Occasional travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students. Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments. Ability to promote the campus image. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others. Ability to follow established college policies and procedures. Must be able to administer NJCAA Division I intercollegiate program including, recruiting, scheduling, fundraising, budgeting, travel, and practice plans. Must be available to work a varied schedule to include extensive nights and weekend hours.

Responsible for maintaining inventory of equipment and uniforms related to sport.

Based on LSCPA mission, recruit student-athletes to fill and maintain appropriate roster sizes based on NJCAA standards.

Responsible for verifying athlete eligibility prior to competition.

Serve as responsible party for student-athlete safety and conduct during all team athletic practices, games, events, and activities and notifies Athletic Director of any issues.

Coach, teach, and train student-athletes in skills and strategies related to competition.

Essential Job Functions:

Responsible for the optimum development of the Softball Intercollegiate Sports Program.

Provide leadership to respective team via expertise, direction and personal example.

Responsible for maintaining and submitting statistical reports to the NJCAA.

Other duties as assigned based on the employee’s skill set, the needs of the Department and team sharing approach.
