Reporting to the Head of Financial & Model Risk, the Head of Model Risk Management will join a dynamic team responsible for management enterprise risks. This is a new position created to advance the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team's risk modeling capabilities and overall strategy. Advancements within enterprise risk modeling will influence decision-making across the enterprise to account for various complex risk scenarios ensuring Guardian maintains its strong position in the marketplace. You will be responsible for developing a holistic governance framework for capturing a complete model and algorithm inventory (internal and external), leading a team to implement a risk assessment of the inventory, and designing and overseeing an independent model validation program. In this role, you will partner with the leaders in IM, Group, actuarial, technology, and others in Risk to ensure Guardian's Model Risks are well understood and regularly validated.
You will
- Design and develop a holistic governance framework for capturing a complete model and algorithm inventory
- Design and implement an independent model validation function. This includes developing an annual plan that prioritizes models in need of validation, overseeing internal or external resources assigned to the validation, reporting on key findings to the appropriate risk committees, and tracking and ensuring follow-up and remediation on identified risks.
- Partner, collaborate and communicate with leaders across the business, including actuarial , technology, and others in ERM to ensure Guardian's Model Risks are well understood and regularly validated.
- Provide leadership that supports a team that will oversee and execute the model validation program including building a comprehensive understanding of Guardian's models and embedded risks
- Enhance the governance over model assumptions, including centralizing the assumption inventory, building an assumption validation program, and developing regular reporting on material assumptions.
- Monitor and update Model Risk frameworks to ensure compliance with evolving relevant regulations and industry best practices.
- Ensure Guardian's Model Risk program keeps pace with the dynamic and evolving model/technology landscape.

You have
- 10+ years of experience in the Life Insurance industry.
- Deep understanding of Model Risk frameworks and life insurance products.
- Solid understanding of evolving technology and algorithmic models.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to accelerate impact and the desire to lead change.
Salary Range
$148,970.00 - $244,745.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
