Relocation Assistance Available: The Head of Live Operations is responsible for managing live production across Farmer Focus’s partnership with 120+ farms in Virginia and West Virginia. In this role, you are responsible for fostering a positive and productive relationship with our grower partners, feed and chick suppliers, and regulatory agencies. Farmer Focus’s Head of Live Operations will supervise all aspects of our broiler grow-out operations to include live haul, grower relations, coordination with veterinarian staff, feed milling, nutrition, placement schedules, and compliance with all local, regional, state, and federal requirements pertaining to broiler operations. You will be responsible for the ongoing development of all direct and indirect reports in the Live Operations department, and will ensure the effective flow of information to that team about impactful aspect of the company’s priorities, KPIs, financial results, and organizational changes.
In order to perform these duties, it is understood that the Head of Live Operations will:
- Be able to travel by vehicle to farms, processing or other locations as required in the course of day-to-day business and as identified by leadership
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Regularly manage cross-functional and external collaborations and projects
- Possess a keen eye for detail, be adept at identifying defects in items or processes, and be consistently aware of safety risks within the farms
- Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively convey information, ideas, and reports to a variety stakeholders
- Maintain a valid driver's license
What You Bring to this Role
- 10+ years in poultry operations and 5+ years in Live Operations
- 4+ years of managerial/supervisory experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively convey information, ideas, and data to a variety of stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to utilize all systems and technologies deployed by Farmer Focus (to include: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Smartsheet, Microsoft Teams)
- A valid drivers license and ability to travel to farms and throughout the community
- Ability to walk, stand, and perform physical labor while on farms
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, and bend
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This work for this position will be conducted in an office environment (30-40%) and at farms (60-70%).
Work on farms will expose the individual in this role to:
- a significant amount of airborne dust, chick down, and feathers
- chicken manure and associated odors, including ammonia
- temperatures up to 105 degrees, and humidity up to 100%
- seasonal weather conditions, to include inclement weather
