Julie is a new healthcare company (launched 2022) that offers FDA-approved emergency contraception with the goal of increasing access and helping users make safer, more informed choices. Julie is sold at Walmart, CVS, and Target nationwide. With a one-for-one donation program (called "Julie for All")-we have quickly become one of the largest donors of emergency contraception in the U.S. Julie is driven by the belief that all individuals deserve easy access to emergency contraception without stigma, fear, or anxiety. We aspire to reduce the roughly 48% of pregnancies in the U.S. that are either mistimed or unwanted.
Julie is seeking a Head of Finance to own Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), own the company's budgeting process, align the business to optimize for profitability and cash flow, and ensure excellent business processes and compliance. Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Finance will be a key leadership team member and a trusted advisor to Julie's management team and cross-functional leaders.
Location: NYC hybrid (2-3 days per week in Julie's Soho office); occasional travel required.
We will count on you to:
Business Impact
- Partner with the CEO and Leadership team to do monthly, quarterly, and annual budgeting aligned to our strategic plan
- Lead the preparation of monthly financial and operational reporting across all departments of the business
- Run cross-functional meetings to discuss financial performance vs. budget / forecast; understand implications of operational decisions on forward-looking financials
- Prepare weekly cashflow and perform financial analyses to evaluate financial health of the business and guide strategic decision making
- Analyze and build financial cases for new product initiatives and retailer footprint growth.
Finance & Business Process Excellence and Compliance
- Manage external accounting contractors and internal team to identify and monitor major financial and business metrics across the company (traffic, conversion, COGS, etc.) and re-forecast the business monthly across the major channels (ecomm and retail)
- Develop and coordinate the flow of information for finance KPIs and standardized reporting to relevant stakeholders
- Oversee ongoing financial reconciliation to actuals
- Ensure the on-time collection of accounts receivable and on-time payment of accounts payable
- Manage and oversee the accounting team's execution of insurance policy renewals, reviews, and filing of claims
- Coordinate with CPAs and prepare financials for periodic tax filings and financial audits
- Correspond to investor requests and lead financing due diligences
- Manage lender relationships, compliance reportings and debt facilities
Retail Partnerships and Vendor Management
- Work with the Head of Retail and Head of Operations to ensure the sell-thru and sell-in forecasts align with the full scope of business needs and financial goals.
- Lead the investigation into and coordinate cross-functionally to resolve retailer chargebacks
- Support the negotiation of payment terms and commercial terms with vendors and clients and proactively renegotiate existing terms and limits
- Track and follow up on the invoice and purchase order process
Team
- Partner with co-founders and other leadership team members to provide key information needed for decision making and respond to requests as needed
- Act as a trusted cross-functional partner to all departments
- Maintain close partnerships with external finance consultants and ensure accountability
- Strategize organizational design of your team and own hiring the internal accounting team, aligned to financial goals as we scale
Who we are looking for:
- 7-10+ related experience, and ideally two years in CPG startups
- Track record of managing financial planning and analysis in alignment to business strategy
- Demonstrated experience bringing strategy, critical thinking, and problem solving to financial challenges
- Strong knowledge of and experience in financial reporting and accounting
- Excellent Excel skills
- Experience with ERP implementation
- Extremely detail oriented and strong organizational skills
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy in ambiguous settings
- Can drive cross-functional initiatives involving employees from across the organization
Salary + Benefits:
- Compensation includes a $190,000-200,000 base depending on level of experience, and includes bonus eligibility and company stock options.
